It wasn't used year round for all those years but what the hell it still works pretty darn good.

I really just need a lightweight dust/rain cover so I'm not having to clean the car every third day, or after every rain.

The issue I have with outside car covers is the car needs to be absolutely clean when you put the cover on.

I try not to use my cover if it's going to rain, uv protection and protection from the idiot leaf blower guys that blow filth all over the place weekly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I have heated storage for off-season, and in-season I only have outdoor parking as we have no garage (it is largely protected from wind on two sides). I did get a

nice fitted car cover shortly after getting the car, but it's heavy, cumbersome, and too bulky to easily store as a daily on/off cover. I really just need a lightweight dust/rain cover so I'm not having to clean the car every third day, or after every rain. (And yes, I'm open to selling this cover)

There are no details on that page (price. pics, etc). Looks like a special order. Do you remember how much it cost? I need a simplel cover too.

Though first review is a little worrisome:
"
Cover is nice and looks good, but the issue i encountered is a series of marks on the front and back in the clearcoat after putting it on and off only a few times. It is a tight fit, which i would think is something you want for an outside cover, but for an inside duct cover the fit should be loose. The clear coat of 911 is soft and just taking the cover on and off 5 times has left marks in it. Glad it was only $100 vs $200. I tried cutting into the rubber band at the edge in from and rear, but its not so much the band as the overall length of the cover."
I saw that review too, and it stopped me. I did get a ceramic coating, but was still a bit concerned after reading that.
So far my solution has been to get a microfiber cloth damp, with a just touch of isopropyl alcohol added, and wipe off the car before driving. And to do the same after a rain before the water droplets can dry.
I havn't noticed any issues using it, but I don't normally install/remove it multiple times a month. I only use it when the car goes into winter hibernation. I also use Double Black Bead Maker after every wash to help protect the clear so maybe that's why I am not seeing any issues.
I thought you needed an outdoor cover? This tri-guard one seems to be indoor.
I have been happy with this
Platinum model
from carcovers.com. It doesn't have side mirror pockets, but fits good without being too tight.
It rolls quickly into sleeping bag size so I can throw it into the frunk easily. And, it's waterproof.
It did blow off twice, when we had 45 mph gusts blowing straight up the driveway, but I suspect many covers (besides the super snug ones) would have done the same. That said, they have a
gust strap
, I just didn't order it with mine.
The issue I have with outside car covers is the car needs to be absolutely clean when you put the cover on. If you don't do that, any wind will rub the dirt into the car finish as well as the inside of the car cover.
Essentially, you end up putting an abrasive material on your car that adds up over time. This is the same problem with the old car bras. Dirt gets on the inside.
Unfortunately, there isn't a good alternative to a garage, but you might consider ceramic coating the car. Any dirt or bird and bee droppings will easily wash off without damaging the finish.
If you are unwilling to pay for a professional job (they actually bake the coating on), there are some DIY coatings such as AMMO NYC Reflect that is better than wax.
the gust straps work well, or go on Amazon and order tarp clamps and a pair of 40 or so bungi cords. Attach behind the front wheels and other before the back wheels. Cover left no marks all winter but car was washed and waxed before the cover was put on.
Back in 1987 I bought an indoor car cover for the 928 I had back then.36 years later I am still using it on my 996. It wasn't used year round for all those years but what the hell it still works pretty darn good.
I'm very happy with
California Car Cover Superweave
I bought for my '99 C4 Cab. The cover is lightweight, machine washable, and folds into a compact package that fits in the frunk with room to spare!
That's what I have on the e39 and it's been great. The BMW covers are made by 'Noah' and disintegrate after 2-3 years. The
Superweave
is 6+ years old and is still going strong.
The seller of my 996 included a great cover from a local company but they unfortunately are out of business.
Seems like it. Sigh. Anyway. I took care of this year's car cover purchase by trying something new, Suncoast had a sale on I bought the reflective cover it's a very tight fit and I could see how it could wear your paint or clear coat anyway. I guess one advantage is it's not going to be blowing around so there won't be continuous abrasion.
After being in the sun I'm sure it will warm up and stretch a bit,

. I'm going to order another brand as well, CoverKing sells swatches and I received them in the mail today, $10.00, I wanted to see the difference between their silverguard and silver guard plus covers. Both are lighter and more pliant than the Porsche branded one on my car now. I will order the Plus, it's a 50.00 bump but I think it will be a good cover, as long as it fits well. I'll keep the Porsche one for when I know I won't drive it for a while, and use the lighter one for easy on easy off use. I try not to use my cover if it's going to rain, uv protection and protection from the idiot leaf blower guys that blow filth all over the place weekly. Leaf blowers are surely a sign of the apocalypse.
Why would you not use it if it's going to rain?
I've made it a point (when I can) to wipe down with a microfiber after a rain while the car is still damp, so I don't get the dried water marks. I would have thought a cover would be useful in rain to avoid this.
I just hate getting the cover wet, and then having to let it stay damp off the car, finding a place to hang it to dry, etc.. The rain here in NC is surely not as damaging as the sun. My car is no garage queen, tho she would like to be haha.
I do have sealant or 'ceramic' coating on the paint, but it's not the professional version. I'm just using Adams ceramic spray sealant. I do have a full on Adams ceramic coating kit with blacklight so I'll try getting that on soon, it's getting bloody hot.
I just saw one over in the 991 Turbo forum too with the same banal, completely useless information that anyone with a functioning brainstem already knows. It closes with this pearl of wisdom, "
Remember to regularly clean and maintain your car, even with a cover, to ensure its long-term protection and overall condition".
The future looks really dumb.
Yeah, absolutely. I just got laid off from my job of 13 years, not AI related, but budgetary. They're just not doing well. There's been layoff after layoff. I thought I was immune but there ya go. 16 of us laid last Thursday. Anyway, I'm working on a resume, and everywhere you look there's advice on how to use AI to craft your resume. You know what? I'm putting in bold in the header of mine: no AI was used in the creation of this CV.
Back to the car cover topic, pelican parts alerted me that the CoverKing shipped yesterday, I'll post photos of that one soon.
I bought a used cover for my 99 on eBay that was for a 2015 Boxster. Cars are very close in size, cover was OEM, doesnt scratch. I use it on the 996 and 928. New was $300, paid $125. It folds itself into its own carrying case, so its not bulky either.
CoverKing cover is very nice, can recommend. I actually ordered the Silverguard, not the soft lining
plus
version, and I'm glad I did. There's no woven material to collect dust and dirt. Perfect fit, machine washable, and very reflective. It's much lighter than my other covers, and dead easy to wrap that rascal. It's not 'ribbed for her pleasure' but I'm too old for that romantic junk anyway. 😂
I bought an AutoCraft car cover a few years ago from Advanced Auto hoping to keep the dust off during the winter and maybe deter mice. It was light (and cheap). I put it away for the summer and when I went to retrieve it for the following winter, I found the mice had nested in it over the summer and destroyed it!
