Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The key and imobilizer are working, the only issue is the key fob remote.
Leading evidence: 'key fob remote' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Shortly after buying it, the fob remote lost it's sync, possibly because the battery was disconnected for an extended period.

I've changed the batteries, reversed the batteries.

Then you'll be ready when you go to set up another key (which I highly recommend.)

I've tried re-syncing it with the car using all of the ignition and door lock methods.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I also am still getting a flash on the fob when the button is pushed.
I have a 996 with a single key. Shortly after buying it, the fob remote lost it's sync, possibly because the battery was disconnected for an extended period.

I have PIWIS 3 but very limited experience with it. How can I use it to re-sync the key fob with the car?
The key and imobilizer are working, the only issue is the key fob remote.
Stephen
I played with this a little more last night. The reason I couldn't re-sync the key was that the Alarm module had completely forgotten it. So I think I'm down to needing the immobilizer ID to re-sync the key, which I do not have.
Any suggested way forward at this point? The immobilizer module is an older "I32" module.
Stephen
I have a PSWIS I but things should be similar with your III.
Got into Alarm module, then Teaching Functions.
Then select Remotes - to get into this you'll need your car's Learning Code. You can get yours from your Porsche service manager. Just ask for the whole print out. One page with all of your codes.
Once you are in there, you'll see a list with four key code spaces. Your car will have one and possibly one or two other keys populated.
If there are multiple, start with the top one. Highlight it. Hit F8 (learning) and click the button on the fob. If your selected key matches your key this should re-synchronize them.
Test
If that doesn't work, move down the list until you get a match.
btw, this is almost exactly how you add a new fob. In that case you'd select an open space and hit f8. The system will then ask for the 24 digit code that comes with the new fob.
Do the dealers just hand this out? I was under the impression that they're pretty tight with this info and like to charge a lot -- or is this different to the Imobilizer PIN and I'm confusing the two?
The car actually came with just one key (surprise, surprise) and I really would like to remove the missing key and add a new key.
Stephen
There is nothing stopping a dealer from giving you your codes, if they feel like it. So make them feel like it. I'm guessing you don't have a relationship with your dealer? If not, every dealer is different. I can only tell you how I did it. I took my car into Porsche to have an alignment done and some other minor things that I can't do here in Key West. About 1k worth of work. As part of that I told the service manager that I was purchasing a fob from his parts dept but that I wanted to do the programming at home and would appreciate it he'd get me my code print out. He said sure.
Cold calling a service manager that doesn't know you out of the blue will likely not get you your codes. A visit might. Bottom line, to do what you want to do, you need your codes. If you don't have anything else that you need done to your car, pay them to do the re-activation but make it clear you want to walk out with your codes. Then you'll be ready when you go to set up another key (which I highly recommend.)
In days gone by, I had a pretty good relationship with Kronos in Belgium. They would have given me anything. But my Porsches in the USA are all older and I've made it a point to DIY everything. So no, I don't have that relationship. Guess I'll have to work on that.
Thank you. I appreciate the advice!

@Taos996
hey man just responding on this old thread. I thought you needed PPN access. I have a 970 Panamera that I am trying to get someone to code it remotely, I tripped the immobilizer when I replaced the rear BCM and didn't realize there was a campaign I needed to run to update the front BCM to sync it with the rear BCM
Sorry, I have a PSWIS I and a 996. I know them very well, but that's all I really know about. PSWIS I can easily be run in standalone mode and while I believe there are work-arounds for the III, I'm not the guy to ask. You might try over in the Panamera group.
I am trying to sync the remote part of the key. This key starts the car but the lock/unlock doesn't work. I have the 24 digit key code that came with the key, but PIWIS is asking for a 6 digit teaching code first?
Is this something only the dealer has?
