I just replaced my cracked carbon fiber shifter with a new one and the shifter and boot are one piece (which can be separated if needed by removing a couple zip ties).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all - Please see pics below. My shift **** is loose and just sort of spins, and will pull right off. The shift rod seems like just a tube, and the **** itself appears to be made of wood. I can't see anything that would hold this on, is it just a press fit that has given up? I expected to see some type of clip or something. Any fix for this other than a dab of silicone? TIA

POST 2Original post

This looks strange, pry off the silver trim and boot and see what is going on under there because that doesn't seem to resemble the shift rod that I have. I just replaced my cracked carbon fiber shifter with a new one and the shifter and boot are one piece (which can be separated if needed by removing a couple zip ties). I popped up the trim and boot then pulled it taut and had to unscrew a small allen style screw that kept the shifter on the rod then took the whole shifter boot off and replaced it.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This may make some sense, I think this car does have an aftermarket SS kit, unknown brand. Maybe they just just tried to plot the stock **** on the kit? Maybe a bit of silicone to secure it is my best option at this point.
