Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace water pump' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check level and try' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Keep checking the level and try to do a few more trips of 20 mins or more to really get the temperature up .

After filling with coolant I rode with the valve on top of the tank open to release any air trapped in the system.

Suggestion
Having to top up several times after changing the pump is normal if you didn't use an Airlift to refill the system.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just changed my water pump . I have two questions. About three weeks before changing it I noticed that oil had leaked just under the water pump. Is there any oil in the bearings of the water pump? I then had coolant marks on the water pump that decided me to replace it. Glad I did as the bearings were not turning silently and there was a bit of play from the bearing shaft. Second question. After filling with coolant I rode with the valve on top of the tank open to release any air trapped in the system. After a few rides after that , the coolant level kept going down and I had to add coolant. It seems to have slowed. Would this be normal as I had driven at least 15 miles with the valve open and would have assumed that most of the air would have left the system. There is no oil in the coolant and oil looks nice and clean. Can't find any leaks.Any comments would be appreciated.
I don't believe you would see oil dripping from the bearings of a bad water pump. Having to top up several times after changing the pump is normal if you didn't use an Airlift to refill the system.
No oil in the water pump bearing. Suggest cleaning it up and keeping an eye on it. It takes several heat/cool cycles for the coolant to finally burp any air out of the system. Also suggest just keeping an eye on the coolant level. It sounds like it is going to be okay.
Thanks guys
No idea where that oil came from.I's been over a month and that never came back. I will just monitor it for a while. Oil level never changed. So all should be OK
15 miles isn't very far. There is probably over 16 feet of coolant hoses in the car. Keep checking the level and try to do a few more trips of 20 mins or more to really get the temperature up .
