Even NRG website has a general set of instructions where an installer used a discarded hair clip to jury-rig a electrical pickup for the horn.

I also used an NRG short hub and was able to keep my clock spring.

I really wanted a Black spoke Prototipo, but a slightly used silver one popped up locally for 1/2 price.

Suggestion
Airbag: I was able to bypass the airbag by crimping pins to a resistor, inserting them into the female slits on the car harness and then heat shrinking after testing for airbag light.

Suggestion
A more elegant solution would be to cut the other connector that goes to the clock spring and solder the resistor in place and use heat shrink to cover the resistor.

Suggestion
I've also seen people use nail polish as well, the anodizing on these steering wheels may not be slick enough to wipe the excess as easily as I would be on a slide but with enough patience I think it would look perfect.

I apologize for reviving an old thread, but I am trying to find someone who can make red Porsche logo stickers like these to use over the yellow lettering on my Momo steering wheel.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It is not the most elegant solution, but it worked for me.

Go to eBay and buy these vinyl decals....ask Scott to make them red and youll need to have him make a set that is 1.25
I had him make me some in black for my MOMO Prototipo.
It was tough to get the letter to stick to the transfer tape.
The letter looks great, and I have a bunch of spares now.

Here’s what I used to install my MOMO Prototipo:

Thanks TexSquirrel! RennListers are great!
the link says it includes all the parts to trick the airbag and make the horn work. That was the part of the swap I was most concerned about
: watched a few videos of guys swapping wheels, struggling with that part making their own pins and cutting up the harness.
Now need to decide: Prototipo vs Mod 7. They both look awesome really transform the interior but not sure about the stripe (nothing else yellow in car). Black or silver spokes?
Your definition of "all" may vary.
The part (a resistor) to trick the airbag is included.
I just pushed the resistor's wires into the connector and covered it with quality 3M electrical tape.
A more elegant solution would be to cut the other connector that goes to the clock spring and solder the resistor in place and use heat shrink to cover the resistor.
The piece for the horn is also included.
There is a harness wire missing.
Instead of trying to locate the missing factory wire with the bullet style socket, I soldered a small gauge wire on the end of the horn piece.
It is not the most elegant solution, but it worked for me.
I also used some thick 3M double stick tape to help hold the horn piece in place because it likes to wiggle and that can make your horn beep while turning the wheel.
If you align the hub correctly, you'll end up with a working horn and a cancelling turn signal.
Be prepared to remove everything a dozen times(at least) before everything works.
Thankfully it's really easy to remove and reinstall the MOMO steering wheel since you'll do it many times to get everything right.
The hardest part was figuring out how to remove the factory clock spring.
I really wanted a Black spoke Prototipo, but a slightly used silver one popped up locally for 1/2 price.
I do like how it's come out, especially after I added the black "Porsche" and the Porsche Emblem horn button to it.
I just noticed/remembered a couple of things.
First, I've only driven my
996 1800
miles since last July.
If COVID hadn't happened that would have been closer to 11,000 miles.
Second, the bolts that came with my hub were lightly rusted when I started to install them. (The rust was removed before installing them, but I knew that it would return since I'm in swampy Houston)
The rust was not present when I received the hub from Gert, but happened while they were stored in my humid garage for a couple of years before I got the time, because of COVID, to install my MOMO steering wheel.
I purchased stainless steel bolts off of Amazon.
The hardest part was finding some that were long enough due to the 15mm spacer.
I'll go through my Amazon Orders and see if I can find them.
They look a lot better than the ones in the picture above IMHO.
Good news, I found the bolts I used.
Bad news, they're unavailable.
Even the page on Amazon no longer exists, but here's the thread size/pitch and length that worked for me with the 15mm spacer:
Three steering wheels arrived today (two Prototipo (brushed vs black spokes; no stripe; white stitching) & one Mod 07 (black spokes, yellow stripe)). I accidently ordered the Mod 07 in suede, not the smooth leather. Singer uses Prototipos with the Momo hub. The cup cars appear to have Mod 07s with a quick release. The local Indy has several 996s including a Cup, they tell me they like the Mod 07 because the dish brings it a little closer to the chest, easier to steer while racing. They didn't have a recommendation for the best distance for steering while eating a drive-thru taco, maybe you guys know. What is the right distance from the chest? My '99 has telescopic steering column (oddly, no tilt) and even at maximum with the stock wheel, it's pretty far away. The driver seat is bolted directly to the floor so that's a different project.
So none of the Momos came with the required bolts. Or the badass Porsche crest centers. The bolt size is M5 x .8mm, length will vary depending on if you're using a spacer. 12mm seems about right. You can get six counter sunk zinc-coated hex-head bolts at the local Lowe's for $1.96, before the 10% Veteran's discount. Or you can buy them on Amazon for $12. Or you can buy a whole kit of steel 10.9 (supposedly very strong but rust proof?) varied lengths 100 pcs for $11:

I went with the NRG quick-release hub (+ short Porsche adapter) mainly for aesthetics and the OP's statement of not needing to carve up the clock spring (finally got the clock set to daylight savings time so I'd prefer not to mess with the clock spring).
Just need to decide on the wheel. I think if the Mod 07 had no stripe, it would be a no-brainer for me. Could I settle this contest with a Sharpie marker?
Questions for you guys:
where can I score the Porsche centers?
how difficult would it be to make that yellow stripe black? (assume leather, not suede)
what is the right distance between the wheel and my chest (assume I'm average. Well mediocre, if I'm being honest)
Thanks in advance!
I got mine used off eBay for $25.
It’s a genuine MOMO/Porsche horn button.
But you can also buy them from Sierra Madre for $51.

last night I was up till three AM installing the Prototipo, NRG quick release, NRG Porsche short hub adapter. (I just preferred the appearance of the billet gun metal over the Momo plastic bellows)
no instructions from NRG, even contacting the company was no help. All the Porsche videos for steering wheel swap had Momo hub installs where you cut up your clock spring for connectors then discard.
Airbag: I was able to bypass the airbag by crimping pins to a resistor, inserting them into the female slits on the car harness and then heat shrinking after testing for airbag light.
Horn: the NRG kit did not include the spring metal with a pin to connect with (female) pin #71 (that I would have to create and populate). Was I missing pieces? Couldnt tell, there was. No parts list in box or instructions. Even NRG website has a general set of instructions where an installer used a discarded hair clip to jury-rig a electrical pickup for the horn. WTH?
So I had to watch a few general NRG QR videos made by kids installing them on their Hondas, WRXs etc. It appears that they keep the clock spring!!! So happy I didnt cut mine up.
With the NRG kit, you dont touch the clockspring. Disassembling the column appeared to have been unnecessary, provided you could install the SRS resistor bypass at the point it would where it plugs into the actual airbag. THAT would have been good to know. I think Im going to make a DIY, if I can get this back together.
I apologize for reviving an old thread, but I am trying to find someone who can make red Porsche logo stickers like these to use over the yellow lettering on my Momo steering wheel.
The original poster of that photo provided this link to an Ebay seller named "Scott", but it no longer works. Anyone know where to find Scott or someone else who can makes these?
I made my own tiny red letters out of vinyl.
Creating them was simple, weeding (removing the vinyl you don't want to use) them was extremely difficult.
I can create several for you, and supply a small amount of transfer tape.
You'll have to weed them yourself, but I'll create several so if you mess up a few times, you still have some to use.
I'll include a larger weeded Porsche too so you can see what it should look like.
