You didnt mention that when I reached out a while back but things changed I guess.

I use 3-4mm of ABS or PETG for the ones I make for customers.

I am sure a lot of us are really interested in the results of the test fit.

The Rennline parts says it fits both 996/986 , I have a 996 and can test fit the part this weekend.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking to do a GT delete in my 01 996. I see a lot of threads for people who have done 3d printed versions. I am wondering if some one is sharing the file or selling 3d printed versions. The retail products are just so expensive....
Please let me know if you have a source for either the file or a 3d printed GT3 Delete.
Thanks!
Will you link to a thread or pics of those that have been 3D printed? That sounds like a good option especially seeing that it costs $500-1000 to
remove
the lower center console. Never thought it'd cost a grand to remove stuff from a car.
I've had a version I modeled myself in the car for maybe 2 years, petg has held up fine but I finished it with xtc-3d and that has discolored over time, even though I have a full tint and no UV would be reaching the part. I've removed the entire middle console so its not a drop in replacement for the center console delete, otherwise I'd have posted it, the 986 object up-thread looks pretty good on that front.
Care to share a pic?
Also, have you considered covering it in carpet like in the Thingverse photos?
I'm tempted to buy the carbon Rennline unit ($525 USD) and cover it in carpet simply because I don't have any other carbon bits in or on my car.

Alcantara seemed like the easiest choice, I have a link bookmarked for carpet which matches the graphite grey, but I'm also trying to do a matching middle console to cover the handbrake area and don't love the aesthetic of that being carpet. I would buy the carbon rennline piece if I thought I could work it in, but the extra vertical volume doesn't make sense without the whole middle console, I've thought about maybe doing a carbon wrap or layup of my own pieces to break up the sea of gray but I'm already procrastinating enough on this project without adding carbon fiber to the mix. My biggest enemy right now is just being absolutely terrible at modeling in fusion 360
Good to see the replies.
Thermodymanic: are you running the file for a 996? Not sure from your post. Is it the version that has the cap in front of the shifter?.
Grove: Do you feel that model will fit a 996? They should be similar. Not sure if they are the same.
I too am in SE Massachusetts and would be interested in collaborating on getting a couple printed.
The Rennline parts says it fits both 996/986 , I have a 996 and can test fit the part this weekend. I will update the thread with pictures. Once I verify fitment with PLA, I can print in a higher temp material. The surface finish is quite good, you might be able to sand/prime/paint. Wrapping with CF would look great also.

I would imagine that it would fit a 996 just fine. I would probably print out of PETG and use carpet or alcantara to cover it for a more finished/matching look.
I didnt have time to look at the files very closely, so not sure if you would also need to print this part as well

or if thats the plate in the original design link

I missed all of the action here - when 3D printing these console deletes you have to go thicker on the print if you want to wrap the final part in something else like carpet. Heat, time, shrinkage makes thin plastic susceptible to applied tension. I use 3-4mm of ABS or PETG for the ones I make for customers.
Finding the correct matching carpet to wrap these took me and my partner a surprisingly long time. But if you have a black-carpet interior you can BS it with speaker-box felt, it's not perfect but hard to tell unless you put your face up close.
Is that small piece that goes in front actually concave? It looks like it is. I thought it was supposed to be flat. I have the GT3 delete and need that piece to go with it.
It's tabbed into the console delete itself, which was reworked to hold the enclosure. The 3M VHB is only for anti-vibration/squeaking and safety factor.
@c didy
yeah the front filler trapezoid has to be concave, else it doesn't line up with other factory parts. Manual cars with shift boots can perhaps get away with a sloppy design but Tiptronic "shift surrounds" are hard plastic with a pronounced curvature.
Did you find a source of suitable graphite grey carpet? I'm about ready to fire up my 3D printer as well, but seems there is no good option for graphite grey.
I got a graphite grey sample as well as a space grey sample from gahh.com and another place - upholsterysupplyusa.com. Turns out the samples are exactly the same!! My guess is everyone probably uses the same supplier.
I feel like the space grey one is almost a match with my space grey interior. Whether thats actually graphite carpet in the car, I am not sure. Given that it sits under the dash and isnt in direct light you wont notice the difference.
Can you shed light on which one specifically you went with? was it German loop pile, or velour, or sliver knit etc?
I have black interior so I assume its safe to just get any black?
Oh yeah and what adhesive did you find to be the best?
thanks in advance!

Printed mine up in one piece last night and really excited to see if this works out.
Ill do my best here, Im no expert by any means and Ive held off on this until the weather gets
warmer but heres where Im at. I have a space grey interior btw, which doesnt seem to be a very common color. I also dont know what kind of adhesive to use yet or how best to wrap a 1 piece delete when the stock one is 3? pieces and seems easier to wrap.
The GAHH sample and one of the upholstery supply samples I got are basically identical (see pics). They are not perfect matches. They seem to match at some angles and in low light which is where the console delete is, the difference might be negligible. The space grey sample matches much better. The larger of the 3 samples in the pic is the Gahh and 2 smaller ones from upholsterysupply.
I believe the sample numbers I got from upholsterysupplyusa.com are
PC40662 (Porsche Graphite Grey) and PC40562 (Porsche Space Grey). I believe that only comes in 1 style of pile - probably velour.
As for the console delete, I got it from user maxlabs off eBay currently priced $289. He sells a 3D printed console delete wrapped in black only. I asked if he could skip the wrapping and he gave me a discount. I figured at that price, it makes sense to not try to source a 3D printer myself, and experiment with a ton of resin etc., couldnt be happier there. It fits fine.
The 2 snafus I ran into: its a 2 piece 3D print and I had to use gorilla glue to make it stronger because it did break at the seam. The other snafu is the black square trim piece actually warped in the summer heat.
Pics attached of everything. Hope this helps and happy new year!
Thx for the quick reply.
Yeah that little plate piece is kinda crappy for me too. I'm likely going to redesign it myself. Down the road I may design a cubby with a lid or something if space allows.
I have a few good auto interior shops near me, so I may just swing into one and see if I can get materials from them.
I'll post results and we can share notes
I'm already really happy with how not having the console tidies things up.
Thx again and happy new year.
Btw, to anyone who has experience with wrapping this console delete, Id gladly take some tips on how to do it.
Specifically, I have these questions:
1. how much material did you need?
2. What shape did you cut it to? And did you make any cuts to get it to sit flat? Kind of like gift wrapping an oddly shaped gift box.
3. What adhesive did you use?
Sorry I missed this reply - yeah, I've made a few graphite grey ones now with a thick pile carpet.
You guys in this thread are getting ripped off paying $289 for a 3D print of an incorrect free model though. I do raw prints for $250 and upholstered for $450 if you don't need the HVAC mod lol.
@circuit.heart
that is a good price for the raw print. You didnt mention that when I reached out a while back but things changed I guess.
In any case I paid $225 for the incorrect free version without upholstery (I mentioned getting a discount). My carpet is hard to match anyways so Id rather just do that part myself.
Appreciate you chiming in.
I actually really enjoy doing this on my own, and it's my full time gig in aerospace designing additive manufactured solutions, but not everyone has a similar background, in which case your offerings are ideal.
I'm driving around with mine right now. Fits tight, no squeaks or rattles. Going to some local shops to get carpet and adhesive soon. The little cover plate is kinda crappy hence it not being there, likely going to design my own
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
