Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Changed the front and rear, but I can tell even without removing the woofers that they are not the problem.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The one thing that has me a little fed up with my 996? The sound system.... BLUF: is there a cost-effective way to replace the Becker Amplifier (BE0066) while keeping the PCCM+ and existing speakers? I.e. a solution that that ideally keeps the original wiring harness connector but ditches the optical cable? Or, worst case scenario, I have to cut through the harness connector to free the cables from their MOST shackles. Granted, some of my issues are self-inflicted... In short, when I got the car, everything sounded like badly encoded MP3s. I knew I wanted to ditch the PCM2, so I got the PCCM+. Sound remained the same. I should have known better, but I thought maybe the speakers were toast. Changed the front and rear, but I can tell even without removing the woofers that they are not the problem. That leaves me with sourcing a new ($800+ for 20 years old "NOS" feels like a gamble in itself) Becker; gambling on eBay; or ditching the MOST altogether and just going with a simple amp set up, and adjusting to a 4 Ohm setup.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
