Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Happy New Year folks! As the exclusive North American distributor of Retrofitlab (RFL) headlight upgrade kits for the Porsche 996, it has always irked me that there is not a great video available walking customers through the installation process in a step-by-step, easy to follow fashion. I have watched every video on the web and most of them are either incomplete, incorrect, unclear, or downright clumsy. This is why I decided to take this task on myself. After all, not many people have done as many installs as I have, as I have offered installation service for all (6) RFL kits I sell since 2022! So effective immediately, every RFL kit purchased from me will come with a Dropbox link to my library containing 17 individual videos for each step of the installation process. Over 3 hours of video in total! Below is a screen shot of the folder. I cover every step, including useful tips that can prevent a lot aggravation and even damage to your expensive lights.

Having just completely rebuilt my 996.2 lights to replace all of the old wiring, I can attest that your table of contents is spot on. Those videos should help give customers the confidence to tackle the job (and facilitate sales,) Considering though, that anyone doing this is also going to want to restore the lens, you might consider adding a couple of clips to address that. Especially for the interior of the lenses. There are, it seems hundreds of clips that talk to the exterior but I only found a couple that talked to any of the interior of the lens restoration and none specific to the 996/Helle lights. My take away from those was to be extremely careful with the interior of the lenses but it would be valuable to know what someone experienced with our lenses recommends regarding any interior clean up that is possible. Good luck with your venture.

Thanks for the input!, that is actually a great point. I have never gone past a quick polish of the lights that were sent to me for retrofits. A Facebook Porsche buddy of mine that retrofits Boxter (986) lights does do some lens restoration (sand with the entire gamut of grit numbers and clearcoat with 2K clear) but I've stayed away from it so far because it is messy, takes a lot of time and it is not my favorite pastime... He did experiment around with fixing the inside of the lens but mentioned that is extremely difficult and requires a different approach from the outside. That said, I am in the process of finding a local paint shop that I can outsource the lenses to of the retrofits I do here. The risk of messing up a lens is real and replacement is either expensive (996.1) or impossible (996.2). I have a contact that has plans to make 996.2 lenses, but his timeline is still uncertain. Some lenses on headlights I receive are beyond help and a brand new replacement would be a godsend! So sorry that I can't oblige to add some videos of lens restoration, at least not at this time. I did recently buy all the tools to do them, but I have to do some experimenting first on an old set of lenses to get more proficient!
