Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check oil filter and it was clear' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check oil filter and it was clear' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The key is to get it clean so that anything that burns hot (oil) is gone and not create a hot spot - that is what kills it.

Suggestion
Your cats and 02 sensors will probably be fine if they were good before ....If have replaced a lot of engines that had coolant running out the exhaust and the cats and 02 sensors were OK and not immediately junked..
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As I disassembled the exhaust and got to the header, I had about 2 cups of coolant pass through my header/cat via way of what I believe is a D-chunk (TBD).
My main question is, do you think the header/cat can still be used as intended? (No, Im not going to hollow out the cat or cut it out or any modifications).
other questions:
Does coolant ruin the cat material? Will the cat burn off any coolant? Can I clean it up???
To be upfront, this is regarding my 987. Why post here, first off Ive been a member here for years 02 C4S) but this group seems to have more technical knowledge.
Google search leans towards coolant causing buildup with clogs the cat. You might take a look at them to see if they seem clogged or if the mesh seems narrower in one than the other. The header by itself should be fine to re-use.
Well, 2 cups of coolant is not much. Don't see much of a problem here at all.
I'd thoroughly rinse it with a garden hose, blow it out with compressed air, let it dry completely and call it a day. Hey, you're starting with a 20 year old cat, they don;t last forever.
The bigger problem imo, is this D-CHUNK you're talking about. Forget about the cat....
Whats going on here,? tell us some history and events of why you say this,,,?
Well, I have a habit of picking up rollers with blown engines (see C4S) and found a heavily modded 07 Cayman S. All the PO - and the Porsche dealer - knew was it stopped running and the engine seized. It couldnt be turned by hand in either direction and the owner didnt want to spend another few grand just to explore. I got it for a song.
I dropped the sump when I first got it and all was clean/clear. Next I checked the oil filter and it was clear. I walked away for a few days and when I came back there was coolant puddled on the ground under the sump plate. My first thought was D-chunk figuring thats how the coolant got in there AND how the engine was seized.
when I started to prep the engine to be dropped I found all the coolant coming out of the header.
Thats all I know until I pull the thing apart or borescope it.

Thanks Skip!
So I found an article suggesting that the cats can be cleaned and recommend a mixture of water and citric acid.
Here's the article.
Note that this was for a diesel cat, so I'm not sure if they are the same, but seems worth a try...
"
Now scientists from the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry in Madrid, Spain, have found that a dilute solution of citric acid can wash out the catalyst killers without damaging the platinum. When tested on a simulated stream of exhaust gases, the cleaned-up catalysts were as good as new, the team reports online in

And here's an actual post from someone that tried in on a Subaru forum:

Just wash it out, use dawn dishwashing soap. The key is to get it clean so that anything that burns hot (oil) is gone and not create a hot spot - that is what kills it. So, any oil out- water will evaporate at 212 way before any damage. But antifreez may burn hot - not sure. Magnaflow now has CA certified cats- that is what I used.
