You have to create a power supply for them that changes the duty cycle of the 5 VDC going to them to dim them....or at least in my case you had to.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First of all; thanks to "TabooPc" for the idea...(From another forum...) My car is 1998 Carrera2... Instead of his cluster; mine is older and has previous technology I guess. My inst. cluster is feeding with Halogen Bulb instead of his gauge. So when I changed these bulbs; it was completed. (Because of his post; I bought 100 pcs of leds ) As an extra; I changed all the switches and the others led's from Amber to White. Conclusion is very good for me; total 36 hours of works. (I removed the gauges, speed, rpm, fuel etc; then I missed to put sign so I spent 4-5 hours to fix them ) Here is pics; if you need info; you can ask me... Old Style original amber.... Started to work with dispatching... 8 pcs 1.5Watt 2 pcs 3Watt halogen bulb is lightning... Air Con control unit... Switches... Light switch; I made some height to get more light... Now; I can find the switches easily Final! This is not like bluish like this... But the glasses are can not be black... Again; glasses are cannot be black...

POST 2Original post

Nice job, I like the look. After so many years with the orange I don't think I could do it though and I know she'd kill me if I started modifying her car like that

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you; This is my car not my wife but she started to "bla bla bla..." when she saw instrument cluster first... Then she continued for those 36 hours

POST 4Original post

You should have heard mine when I tore into my (then) brand new Cayenne It would ratchet up a few more levels if I started taking her baby apart

POST 5Original post

Now it looks like a Chevy. Cool. Just kidding... looks nice. Ze Germans made the dash lights orange because it's easier on the eyes at night (or so I've heard) by the way.

Nice job! Looks great! You are indeed resourceful, skilled...and patient. I'd love to have skills with electronic, but electrical stuff just eludes me. I wouldnt hesitate to drop my engine (and hopefully wont have to anytime soon), but want to install a new stereo head unit and will likely end up at a car stereo shop as my poor little brain cant work out the mechanocs of wiring.

POST 10Original post

I just want to know how you got the light switch bezel out of the housing without breaking it...Mine won't budge, so I can't get the light switch out.

POST 11Original post

Do the LED's dim at all with the dash dimmer or are they are full brightness all the time? I've tried changing out my dash lightbulbs with LED's on my 968, but because LED's only need about 5 VDC to foward bias, they were on full brightness. You have to create a power supply for them that changes the duty cycle of the 5 VDC going to them to dim them....or at least in my case you had to. As I recall, a guy on the 928 forum had one that he made. Nice job!

After removing Light Switch from your car; There should be a very big bolt nut; After removing this nut; it is going to be free; then after removing light switch body from the plastic side; there are small claws/notchs (I am nut sure in English) asfter releasing them; you will be able to see the original leds

My dimming is working properly. Do not use 5V leds Buy leds for 12V structure(with resistors); then you can work on them.

I changed mine as well. Gauges as white and everything else is blue. Some soldering skills are needed to do the buttons and HVAC, but the cluster is easy to do. You can get what you need here: https://www.superbrightleds.com/ Or you can get it as a kit from this fellow. More expensive, but he provides instructions: https://www.sportscarleds.com/

POST 20Original post

Hello guys, I have a great news, the new modern look ( black and white lcd ) is doable. You only need high quality replacement lcds.

POST 21Original post

What bulbs did you end up purchasing? And how many did you need to buy? I was looking at buying the solder in ones from Digikey and the screw in ones on eBay.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 17934557

I bought mine also from superbrightleds.com. B8.4D-NWHP Natural white, 3 for LCD backlight, and 2 for the voltmeter and the oil pressure backlight. B8.4D-AHP Amber, quantity depends on your car options ( PCM and more ) CEL cannot be a LED ( it will illuminate lightly ) B8.4D-BHP Blue, 1 for the High beam B8.4D-RHP Red, quantity depends on your car options ( Cabrio or not ) Airbag light cannot be a LED ( instant airbag error, because of the low resistance, that's what you see on my image ) B8.4D-GHP Green, 2 or if you have cruise control 3. IDK the cruise control maybe throw an error because of the LED? For the cluster backlight T10s, IDK what bulb i used, because i tried several one. It was hard to find one with a not to bright light and matching color temprature. I bended the LEDs contact point a little bit closer so they fit snugly, but some are broken so i had to solder them on the board ( i don't like this approch, because it's much harder to restore the factory look ) so order at least 2 or 3 more bulb than you should. When you doing this, be careful, because the LEDs have polarity, so test them before you re-assemble everything. And again, CEL and Airbag light cannot be changed to LED without error!

POST 24Original post

Love that look. I am working on updating my car to make it feel a bit more modern, so this is on my radar. My clock LCD is broken, and it seems replacements aren't available, so I thought about putting a small OLED in there driven by an Arduino instead. thanks for posting this thread.

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 17935705

You can buy replacement LCDs on https://store.minitools.com/en . But OLED thing sounds intresting, maybe it can show more info ( exp. Oil temp )

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 17935889

Thank you for the link. I didn't find that before, so thank you. Yes, I thought I could display different things since I can read that data from the CAN bus. I would just replace the LCD though since I now know they are available, and put the OLED somewhere else so that my changes are reversible.

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 17934813

Thanks again for this post. So I am ordering the LEDs now... So the T10s are what light up the actual tach/spedometer? Because if you used the B8.4 for the voltmeter/oil pressure... the inner gauges were not the same? I am only trying to update the gauges, and may ignore the red/amber warning lights below. Do you have any other insight on the T10s on what bulbs you did try or did not try?

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 18439395

Yes, the two T10 lights up the tech/speedo. I tried many T10 to match the color, but i don't know what currectly in the cluster :/

POST 30Original post

Pulling up an old thread. I cant seem to find anything on the webpages mentioned. Would someone have the full list of bulb types needed? I was going to order them from digikey.com

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
