Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok I almost posted this in "what did you do to your 996 today", but its so painfully embarrassing that I thought it deserved its own thread. My 996.2 has the factory BOSE (yes, ugh) CDR-23 and for 2 years of ownership, the volume **** as done that annoying thing where it jumps and or just does nothing. In a youtoob rabbit-hole last night, I saw someone restoring the stickiness issue these ***** have (mine has been garage kept most of its life and doesn't have this issue thankfully). While he had the ***** off to clean/plastidip them, he sprayed inside his head unit with CRC contact cleaner to fix the volume issue. So...today I spent all of 14 seconds on my 996. Fixed the issue immediately. You could pretty much say I'm a master tech at this point. If this is bothering you, go do it! Its not worth the headache when its SO easy.

POST 2Original post

Doja Cat, eh? I'm intrigued! Do you have the youtube link by chance?

POST 3Original post

Awesome! and funny. Time to date ourselves. The first time I used this method to clean a rheostat on an amplifier was at school in 1983! And I'm sure the chemical in that can was not safe for the environment...

POST 4Original post

Great timing as this has been bugging me for a while too! I don't mind the stock Bose system at all. Will have to give this a try. Additionally, at temps below 50F my radio turns on but produces no sound. Another gremlin I need to chase down.

POST 5Original post

Sounds like (no pun intended) you need the can of compressed antifreeze!

Thanks for the trick! i don't have this issue yet but was intrigued by your shifter ****. What and where did you get it if you don't mind me asking?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17989589

Thanks! Dont mind at all! I love this shift ****. Had a rennline aluminum on before and replaced with this. Makes the interior. Its a gentleman named Manual who makes them to order by hand. Going to be about twice as much as a rennline wooden, but well, well worth it and you get the option to customize. @zbomb and several others who I can't remember all have ***** from him. Check out this thread. You can see other varieties and his email address there. Ping him with what you want. He is super helpful/fast. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...n-a-996-a.html

Haha I knew someone would call that out after I noticed it. Just what was playing when I took the pic, I swear! hahah Just search "volume **** contact cleaner" and you should find several videos

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When this has happened to me, I just key cycle the car. Has fixed it all of the maybe 3 times I've experienced it. My head unit will also occasionally get stuck on the "PORSCHE" boot up screen. Same thing; key cycle and its fixed.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 17989734

Interesting! Will have to give this a try next time it happens. Not as often but I've gotten the PORSCHE logo stuck as well. Only a matter of time till I replace the unit....

POST 11Original post

Thanks you so much, will check it out. I am very tempted to go for a Black forest Industries but love the custom wood idea. cheers.

POST 12Original post

Okay so dumb question: The **** on the CDR23 doesn't come off, right? Did you just blast around it?

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17990725

Just pull gently and they come straight off. Its only plastic inside though, so no need to spray the **** itself. Just spray where you pulled it out (doesn't take much!). I wiped the excess immediately to keep the head unit clear. Give it 10 or 20 seconds then soak up any moisture you see. Should be good to go.

Will do, thanks for the info. I've pulled on them in the past and they haven't budged, but I will engage my Inner Hulk.

Why would you want a youtube link, that is against your values and principles of sharing youtube content here on the forums as much as you troll me on here for posting youtube links.
