Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

996 finally increasing in value or inflated auction price???

That's stupid money for that car. You could easily get a 113k mile 996tt 6 speed cab for that, and then there's the buyer's premium on top. Any chance it was one of the charity donation cars?
The numbers there include the buyer's premium, but still that car sold for $30K too much.
The Vegas auction is always a little funny at the end. Usually Saturday is the big day (which it was) and they have Sunday for some of the cheaper cars to come back through.
In Vegas, it only goes until Saturday, so after all of the big money cars went through, there were a few dozen more cars, at the end, because you can't end the auction with a 1.6MM 918.
All of the cars that ended the auction sold for way too much money. There were some 10 year old AMG cars selling for 50K.
If you have a 996 to sell, place it right after the big money cars at the auction (yes, you pay extra based on placement).
Hawk, is the $43K number what was posted as a "price" online or did you see the actual car go for the $43K in the live auction?
I watch barrett jackson auctions on Velocity and every time when a 996 comes up they go much lower than market price. Heck, I witnessed a beautiful 996 Turbo with low miles sell for less than $30K at Barrett. I couldn't believe. I thought for sure it would hit at least $35K.
Not sure how it works but this was the online result listed as sold. The * indicates buyer premium included.

Lot 849 - 2001 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA CABRIOLET
Saturday - October 21, 2017
$42,350.00 * No Reserve Las Vegas 2017
Black on black. Fully loaded with CD player, heated leather seats, Tiptronic automatic transmission buttons on steering wheel, sport brakes and turbo-look wheels.
THIS IS PROOF THAT THE 996 IS A COLLECTIBLE CAR WITH INCREASING VALUES AND SOON MY INVESTING ACTIVITY WILL PAY OFF I CAN'T WAIT MAYBE I SHOULD WRITE A BOOK
IMHO, it's an anomaly. Web manager must have been sippin' a little too much of grandma's medicine. Maybe the right price is $22K instead of $42K??
Here's basically the same car at Barrett Jackson with about half the mileage for $20K

Having attended a few auctions this year there is a buzz about low priced foreign exotics. The Muscle Car generation is not buying or paying the big dollars on an average for the 60s and 70s muscle cars the reasons for this are many, a lot to do with buyers aging out and causing there to be more sellers than buyers a lot like what happened to the 20s and 30s cars years ago. So the buyers and sellers are looking for the next BIG thing. I have seen a few 996 cars go for the $20K range not sure WTF was the deal with this $40K plus car

Did anyone see the hideous, fake be-jeweled, flaired 356 Speedster replica that sold for $100K ? There's the real investment potential...f'ed-up 356 fiberglass replicas.
Tony, you do realize everyone is saying the 996 is worthless because they want us to get rid of ours and lose out on huge future gains. 996 hoarders.
In fact, the designers behind the M96 knew the IMSB would fail causing numbers to go down, striking fear in the community. The last handful of survivors will be worth about $100k in 2 years.
Bill, you know, most Porsche 996 have vale potential
unless
you bought one in flood areas or the country music center of the world. In fact, Nashville Porsches are among the worse to suffer from depreciation. I think it may be the redneck stigma? ha!
What?! You're kidding right?!
To be fair, Bobby Joe did say that he and his sister got married on the front lawn with the 996 next to the old fridge filled with warm Natty Light. His cousin Gretchen still holds a heavy heart since they broke up. Found a pair of her panties in the frunk. Yes. The frunk stunk.
Although we all agree this price is absurdly high at least TWO people at the auction must have thought it was in the neighborhood, right? Unless somebody got in a drunk bidding war with themselves...
There is NO WAY in heck anyone paid $42k for that car, no way, no how. Classic example of fake news planted by the Russians! Mueller will get to the bottom of this!
Reminds me of the classified section on Panorama. Every time I see a 996 similar to mine I think to myself, "Wow I could sell for that much?!?"
I still see cars listed there that cost about what I purchased mine for almost 9 years ago.
My theory is that the vast majority of Panorama advertised cars are simply to appease the wife: "But Honey, I've had it advertised for sale for the past year . . ."
