If fuel economy is suffering, you have a pretty good idea that the rich issue is from the supply side (i.e.
Leading evidence: 'from the supply side (i.e' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'from the supply side (i.e' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend first' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

OP, if you really want to get wrapped around the axle re: idle fuel consumption, you're going to need someone else to set a baseline by running an identical car for x hours after topping off the tank, then refilling the tank and determining how much fuel was used to run the engine at idle for that period of time.

The catalyst for the affected bank(s) will fail prematurely if the car is genuinely running too rich / failing to fully burn the fuel charge.

Of course, since idle fuel consumption is orders of magnitude less than fuel consumption under load, the serious concerns you'd be harboring about the accuracy of the test results would be entirely justifiable.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Idle consumption
Since I had my 2000 C2 cab a few months ago, I realised it's fuel consumption is very high, between 23L/100km and 28L/100km. I cleaned the throttles, had 3M injection/fuel system cleaner, had some tough runs and made my car puffed out heaps of black smoke. Thought it would improve consumption but it never went down. Today when the car was at idle, I reckon it saids 17.6L/100km.
May I know what's your readings so I can take it as a benchmark (stock car).
Doesn't find any error codes from ODB. If I would do a step by step check to find out the problem, what would you recommend first?
Thanks heaps!
Your idle L/100Kms is going to be all over the map technically at idle you are not moving so you will burn an infinite amount of fuel/100kms..
For me personally with easy driving I get about 10.6-11L/100Kms. If I am on the car hard and do mainly city driving then it goes up to anywhere from 14-18L/100Kms.. This is according to the on-board computer. I know the car doesn't get great mileage but thats not what it was built for.
City stop and go I get about 14mpg or 16.801 L/100KM. I love to accelerate quickly from stop lights. Steady on I can get 18mpg or 13.06755 L/100KM. Highway cruising I can get 23mpg, or 10.2267 L/100KM.
If you are producing black smoke on acceleration, sounds like you have a carbon buildup problem. Mine never smokes like that. What type of fuel are you using (octane)?
How much highway driving do you do and/or high speed driving? This car is meant for the Autobahn! Just wondering since your location says Hong Kong.
Mentioning this as comment on the black smoke.
One thing for sure, the more you leave it idling, the worse your fuel consumption/km will be!!!
I am at about 11l/100km average.
I get 16MPG in in-town driving. It crawls up to 18-20ish on highway road trips
I once got a Prius down to 16MPG.... That was fun. They won't rent them to me anymore

I can't tell from OP's OP whether the smoky blackness was a by-product of the "throttle cleaning" / fuel injector cleaner stuff or if the car is making black smoke all the time.
Darker than expected exhaust is the classic symptom of running rich. If you're burning oil or water, you get white smoke. If you're burning fuel, you get black smoke. Burn some other crap and you elect a new Pope. If the exhaust is consistently darker than expected, you're running rich. If fuel economy is suffering, you have a pretty good idea that the rich issue is from the supply side (i.e. not just an aging catalyst failing to process unburned hydrocarbons). Faulty fuel injectors are a common cause for fuel-injected cars using more fuel than they should; ignition issues (failing coil pack, burned spark plug, etc.) too. The catalyst for the affected bank(s) will fail prematurely if the car is genuinely running too rich / failing to fully burn the fuel charge.
OP, if you really want to get wrapped around the axle re: idle fuel consumption, you're going to need someone else to set a baseline by running an identical car for x hours after topping off the tank, then refilling the tank and determining how much fuel was used to run the engine at idle for that period of time. Then you just need to replicate the test conditions with your OWN car. Of course, since idle fuel consumption is orders of magnitude less than fuel consumption under load, the serious concerns you'd be harboring about the accuracy of the test results would be entirely justifiable.
