Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, I am doing a clutch/RMS/IMS job on my 2001 996. It had the double row bearing and I ordered th LN kit and began the install with no issues. The bearing that came out was OK. On to the possible problem... I did not buy the LN tools. I made cam locks and used a pilot bearing puller rugged with pipe. I was able to get the bearing into the IMS without issue but when I put the flang on, the center bolt was slightly too far back (only one thread showing). (I must have bumped it or maybe the flange hit it.) On on examining the bolt it appeared to move freely fore and back. Recovering from my oh **** moment I was able to pull it forward with a strong rare earth magnet. Once pulled forward I was able to attach the nut. I finished attaching the flange with new bolts to proper torque. I was then able to torque the nut down to 7.5 ft/lb too without the stud turning. Everything looks right. Pic attached. Is there any reason to be concerned here? Theoretically I could pull the bearing and re press the bolt in but LN explicitly says not to reinstall a bearing that has been pulled. If the bolt were out of position I cant imagine I would be able to get the nut on and torqued. Thanks for for any advice. LN IMS double row retrofit in 2001 996.

POST 2Original post

Sounds fine to me. Any pics of the installed center bolt?

Its in the pic I put at the bottom of the OP. Maybe too small? Here it is cropped close.

POST 6Original post

Haha, sorry it's me. I thought the bolt was inside the tube. I see it now and it looks fine to me.
