Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently had some trouble retracting my 1999 996 soft top. In order to retract the top I had to pull gently on the Front Latch and then push up and back on the front of the top. It retracted sluggishly from there. To close it I had to pull it forward gently once it reached the midway point. With so many possible failure reasons, what's the best way to trouble shoot and find the primary cause? After checking the Hydraulic fluid, whats the next most logical step; Front Latch Mechanism, Hydraulic pump, or other and how do I isolate the root cause? Thanks

POST 2Original post

If it's sluggish it's low on oil .If it's low on oil the lift cylinder seal or seals are probably leaking .That needs to be addressed before further trouble shooting .Adding oil may work for awhile but the condition will reappear -just as a rainstorm arrives .

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you greatly, Is this something an amateur might be able to repair? Is there a repair manual available for my 911? If so where is the best place to find one?

POST 5Original post

give your battery an overnight charging then try again.

POST 6Original post

cabriolet hydraulics refurbishes the lift cylinders and has a great website with a lot of good information on removal/installation . For a complete set of digital service manuals try a new thread requesting some help in obtaining .It's a big download .
