Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I removed both lights, examined and tested the pins on both headlights, both sides of the car.

Note that the rear right turn signal seems to work correctly when in this emergency flasher mode (but doesn't work at all when the stalk is used).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm knocking down the last of my punch list items on my 2000 C2 before I can start racking up the miles. I have an odd one for the community. I could really use some help. This seems to be isolated to the lighting circuits on the right (driver's side) of the car. The left side works as expected. The behavior: The right turn signals on both front and rear do not work when the turn signal stalk is flicked down. The right high beam bulb comes on when the stalk is in the high beam position, but it is very dim. The right fog light comes on very dim when the light switch is pulled out into the front fog light on position. If I turn on the four way flashers/emergency flashers, the right side front turn signal, fog light and high beam all flash dimly, but in the opposite phase of the cycle as the normal turn signals on the left (front and rear). Note that the rear right turn signal seems to work correctly when in this emergency flasher mode (but doesn't work at all when the stalk is used). This feels like it could be ground related... The right foglight, headlight and turn signal are both grounded at GP1... But what would make them act like that? A powered turn signal wire that is sending stray voltage through the ground? Relay related? I only see an emergency flasher relay, and no other turn signal relays. Are there others? I'm feeling stumped at the moment and could use any advice you'd be willing to share. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

I can think of at least 3 tests: 1) Bring a good ground wire to the right light assembly and retest. If that fixes the light, the ground connection is the problem. 2) Turn on the dim lights then measure the voltage drop between the light's ground and the negative battery terminal. If you see anything > 0.5V, the ground side is bad. 3) Turn on the dim lights then measure the voltage drop between the light's positive power and the positive battery terminal. If you see > 0.5v, the supply path is bad (could be the light switch).

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I got some time in the garage tonight, and started down the road of the tests you suggested. Nothing came up unusual. I removed both lights, examined and tested the pins on both headlights, both sides of the car. I removed the yellow clip holding the connector in the plastic frame and made sure all of the pins were properly seated, then reassembled it again. Everything checked out as normal as best I could tell. So I put everything back together, and low and behold everything works right now... All four turn signals, high/low beams, fog lights, everything. I don't understand it. My best guess is that I had a loose connection at the plug that goes into the headlight, but I don't understand how it could have created the weird symptoms I saw. I'll keep a close eye on it, and report back if it crops up again. For now, I'll call this case closed. Thanks for the tips today.
