Do we all think the market is changing on our 996s?

The difference is production numbers, I think - they made less than 10,000 E39 M5s worldwide, whereas 996 sold like 30k a year through the first few MYs (total run of ~175k).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Except the keytars - oddly enough, it's STILL not cool to play a keytar.
It's been awhile since we had a MK1 model on BAT. Anyone here that cares to fess up to it?

Let the betting pool begin to see where peeps will think this will top out at.
Fantastic, rooting for it to get to 24 or higher. Definitely possible to get something similar for cheaper in the Bay Area though; I've seen a few Coupes with 50-60k miles go in the 18-21k range.
BaT seems like a great way to sell a car, honestly.

Doesn't necessarily work that way. For them to accept your listing they have to agree with you on a reserve figure, and if they believe your number to be too high, they won't list it. Ask me how I know-

Sorry guys, but just took delivery of a very nice 85 Carrera Cab, and as spectacular as my 996 C4S is, just not enough room for all the toys. And I'm retrogressing (model-year-wise) seeking more of that certain "visceral connection" ever since the '72 911T Targa and '73 911S Sunroof Coupe I used to have.
Yea, I agree Chanel#5 my friend. I wasn't expecting it to go that much, but it's nice to win a bet every now and then. You gonna send me a copy of your album for winning? ha!
Oh, yeah. Heh. That was just a flyer for some upcoming - and probably incredibly depressing - gig...probably full of OMD covers.
The highlight of that bad was blowing up the PA at some party we played. Never before and never since have I seen fire shoot out of speaker cabinets every time the bass hit...
I patched their s**t up with some new crossovers and bought my first set of 4x12 speaker cabinets. If you're going to go broke being a musician, might as well do it in style.
No, but I could handle the keyboard parts of "Enola Gay" without a sequencer. That will make your hand go numb faster than a...well, it'll make your hand go numb.
Been there, done that. Moog, Arp Odyssey, Casio CZ1000, Yamaha DX7, Akai S900, Roland Juno and S50, Korg DW8000, Emulator II and Emax II, Oberheim, Ensoniq, Kurzweil K2000S, etc... The good ole days when you could dance gay(aka American Bandstand) and not be mistaken as one. Lol.
Heh. All of the analog synths I had and sold to other dopes on Music Trader...should have boxed 'em up and stored them. Except the keytars - oddly enough, it's STILL not cool to play a keytar.
No. It's just the spring/summer bump. This is a high value for a MkI, but still within the norm we've seen the last couple of years.
MkIs: high teens to low twenties with the occasional mid-twenties thrown in.
MkIIs (non-4S or AE): low to mid-twenties with the occasional high twenties sale.
4S/AE: high twenties to low thirties with a rare 35 to get people's attention.
A part of it is that more people are aware of the IMS and the availability of many options to address this out there along with acceptance of this risk vs. reward.
The many articles of the risk vs. reward that peg the 996 as the performance car bargain of the century from major publications also help drive demand which brings up the price a bit.
The poser owners that weren't truly enthusiasts to begin with dumped theirs awhile ago so now you have more true enthusiasts holding onto them and actually using them. This will start bringing down the inventory of the really great examples out there, allowing them to eventually fetch a premium relatively in the 996 market IMO.
I guess this phenomenon exists with the E39 M5, too - there's a bunch of trashed (or really really high mileage) ones available in the 10-12k range, but anything that's been well kept with less than 100k miles is pretty much 20k+ (sub 60k mile cars are $$$).
The difference is production numbers, I think - they made less than 10,000 E39 M5s worldwide, whereas 996 sold like 30k a year through the first few MYs (total run of ~175k). This is already happening with the C4S market, but it'll take more time for regular and especially early 996es.
Not a complaint though - the volume makes parts easy to come by and relatively inexpensive, so it's really a more accessible platform that should have support for a long while to come.
I think it has much to do with the rise of air cooled 911 values, which have priced out a lot of potential buyers and forced them to look elsewhere for an "affordable" 911. I think this interest has helped push up the values, and will continue to do so.
Well partially this and lately I've also seen many air cooled guys not wanting to drive their "investment" as much since they want maximum returns so they are retiring driving their air-cooled's and picking up one of the 996 water-cooled for daily driven fun without all the air-cooled headaches.
This is going to lead to a lot of "conflicted" air-cooled guys, especially when their wives start refusing to ride in "that stinky old one with crappy air conditioning."
Well, in fairness to REAL keytarists like Alpy, Buffalo "it puts the lotion on its skin" Bill Winter isn't playing a keytar (it has no neck)...that thing is just a keyboard with a couple of guitar strap buttons screwed into it.
As long as it has a MIDI out, it's good enough.
