I'd still recommend an independent PPI through a Porsche specialist though.

Kind of crazy that the first owner took it to a Valvoline Instant Oil Changefor a emission/safety inspection

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm rather new to the Porsche game so I hope there will be some other suggestions too. I'm not new to German cars and PPI so the first two shops that come to mind for me are:
German Car Specialists
15555 Tradesman Dr #500, San Antonio, TX 78249
[phone removed]
Jones' Autowerks
11010 Iota Dr, San Antonio, TX 78217

You won't find anyone in San Antonio anymore. Jones and the dealer won't do them anymore due to liability problems. You can try Premier1, they specialize in our cars and I use them occasionally.

Are you thinking of buying a car here in San Antonio? If you can't find a shop that will do a PPI, PM me, I'll see if I can help in some way. I know all the Porsche folks in this town.
Thanks! Yes, I am looking at purchasing a 2017 991.2 turbo S from a MBZ local dealer in SA. It would be nice to get someone local get their eye on it for me.
This one?

My office is close to there so I have no issue swinging by and looking at it. I also know a mechanic at that dealership (fellow European guy) that is very honest with me. I usually have him work on my cars on the weekends for bigger jobs. I can ask him to look at it for you. I'd still recommend an independent PPI through a Porsche specialist though.
Just a suggested "test" ///
If you call any Indy shop and ask what they would do for a in-depth PPI on a 996.
If bore scope from the bottom of the engine is not on the list... Run....
If they tell you only 4% of IMS bearings fail,,,, Run Faster...
have them pull a oil sample and send in to Speed Diagnostic.
AH cool, yea up in my part of the country, I have 4 indy shops, all do air-cooled 2 do 996 and up..
I love the air cooled shops used them years ago , but they are clueless on the 996, they just wont quit trying to treat it like a 78 engine.
They also cant do a 996 PPI, they dont see the point of the bore scope..
Question to ask the dealer, "where did they get the car?" If a trade in, why did they trade it? If not a trade, where'd they get it? If they got it from a P dealer, they don't let quality cars go, they keep them on the lot.
Just from this pic on the website I would walk away, whoever owned it didn't take care of it, and the dealer didn't detail it.
Find another fish in the sea...
Thats a great looking and specd Turbo S.
Good luck to the op.
Kind of crazy that the first owner took it to a Valvoline Instant Oil Changefor a emission/safety inspection
At first I thought it was for an oil change.
He flew to San Antonio and bought it. I don't think he ended up finding a shop in SAT that would do a PPI but I'll let him answer as I'm not 100% sure.

ah gotcha - looking to get a PPI done, called german car specialists and they weren't offering one. Does anyone know of an independent that would perform a PPI? Separately, thoughts on having the PPI done with the dealer?
It's the same one. Goose Auto Repair focuses on all brands while Goose Euro focuses on all things European. I drove by their shop the other day and they had a couple of old 911s in there and a Ferrari Mondial (don't see that too often).

Hello, I see this is a few years later than the recent posts. Im looking to buy this 997.1 and I want to check for borescoring and for anything other problems as its pretty heavily modified. Any recommendations? I called Jones and Porsche San Antonio, they also couldnt reccomend anyone.
