I just replaced by Bose door speakers with 6x9s using an adapter I bought off Etsy.

My Bose amp and head unit have already been replaced with hire wattage Kenwood ones.

I run an active front set up so have done away with the cap, I tried running a 3-way setup like factory at the front but find it sounds better having the door speakers doing all midrange and just having the tweeter on the dash.

I run a mundorf cap to cross them at a lower frequency and a coil on the driver.

Suggestion
I've kept the boxes with mine (I bought some plastic spacer rings and plastic welded them on to the existing boxes to run 6.5" JL c3 drivers) but I don't run the sub on the rear shelf.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

For those who wanted to get rid of the Bose door enclosure and just run a standard 5.25 or 6.5 door speaker. Here is what I was able to reproduce. Cambridge car audio in the UK didnt want to sell these so I just mimicked what they did.
Their version.
my version
these will need to be catered to the selected door speakers. I could try and make a universal one however all speaker cutout diameter and outer diameter are different.

Very nice! I've kept the boxes with mine (I bought some plastic spacer rings and plastic welded them on to the existing boxes to run 6.5" JL c3 drivers) but I don't run the sub on the rear shelf. Another nice advantage of removing them (other than how lovely your adapters look) is the boxes are over 1kg each. It would be interesting to compare how it sounds with and without the box.
I just replaced by Bose door speakers with 6x9s using an adapter I bought off Etsy. Had to remove the Bose box that never seemed to do much anyway. The door card doesnt quite fit over the speaker enough to snap back in but its not noticeable.
I was able to use the Bose wiring and harnesses instead of splicing new adpapters in. My Bose amp and head unit have already been replaced with hire wattage Kenwood ones.
I've tried various things at the front and like keeping the tweeters in the dash location, it really lifts the soundstage vs. having them down at your feet. I wonder if you could crossover your 6x9s and run the factory tweeters in the dash. I like the factory HAES/Bose silk dome tweeters, but the factory cap crosses them over 1st order at a v high frequency and they run them reverse phased. I run an active front set up so have done away with the cap, I tried running a 3-way setup like factory at the front but find it sounds better having the door speakers doing all midrange and just having the tweeter on the dash.
I tried focal ISN 100s in the dash, with their neodymium magnets they fit properly, but ultimately moved them to the rear as it sounded better using the 6.5s for mid. I run a mundorf cap to cross them at a lower frequency and a coil on the driver.
How are the 6x9's holding up and sounding? I just ordered the same kit today. I have the stock Nokia amp and 4 new corner speakers, which sounds ok but the door speakers sound blown. If the 6x9s dont sound good I'm not opposed to getting a real amp or swapping back to a tang band 5 1/4 inch setup.
Thanks!
I'm working on a more robust (aluminum) adapter and spacer that accommodates a 6.5" woofer. I intend to offer these for sale in the near future.
Reuses 3 OEM mounting points
Would require a self-tapping screw or (better) a rivet nut, in the bottom left (behind the door panel so not visible)
Yup, 100%.
Here's a photo from when I was test fitting without the OEM grill on the door panel. The door panel is fully secured and the grill fits. I just had the grill removed here so I could check for tolerances/clearance.
