I tried running my 911SC with no cat and muffler bypass and though it sounded incredible it was gonna cause some hearing loss.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Recently I tried the muffler bypass, and the sound was spectacular when pushed hard. The main reason reason for the mod was to reduce weight (20kg). Thing is though, it was impossible to live with on a daily basis. I have sinced reinstalled my stock mufflers, which have undergone the Fister mod. I am now finding the sound a little too mild for my taste, so I'm looking for the Goldilocks system that will give me more noise with less weight. I have stumbled upon this system, but the seller (who has a Porsche parts business) has not heard them on the car. Has anyone any experience with this system? I do not have cats on my car (that's how it came from the factory) so I think this might make my system a little louder than stock.

POST 2Original post

Your car almost certainly came with cats from the factory. I do not know who told you this, but it is incorrect. Edit: well, allegedly there is a no cat option. Who knew? That exhaust setup is barely going to do anything besides take a bit oyf the edge off the high end. Those resonators barely have any packing material and otherwise it's just a straight-through pipe. As well as attenuating the high frequencies, the overall tone will probably get a bit lower as the total length of the pipe is longer now. Hard to say if you will like it or not though, all of this stuff is too subjective. Good luck in your search

POST 3Original post

Agreed with brontosaurus - your car did come stock with cats and a previous owner took them off. As for the muffler set up you picture, they are nice mufflers and will be slightly less then the straight pipes but not much. Your best bet would to buy SOUL or Fabspeed exhaust with valves. This way you can have the best of both worlds.

POST 4Original post

This option is available in some countries, believe it means NO CATS, among other things. Option Code Description 150 PARTS SCOPE F. LEADED FUEL

POST 5Original post

Well mother trucker......I would have bet my shorts on it......O'well, learned something new today. Thanks for the education :P)

Wild. Anyone have a picture of this? I would love to see what that looks like. Australia requires cats since 86 so presumably OPs is an import?

POST 8Original post

Best bet is the fabspeed valvetronic exhaust. My car just has the factory sport exhaust with cat delete. Sounds good but could be louder. Considering center muffler delete

POST 9Original post

Slightly related how do the Fabspeed muffler bypass sound on a car with cats? Presumably they tame it a bit? I tried running my 911SC with no cat and muffler bypass and though it sounded incredible it was gonna cause some hearing loss. The Supercup muffler put it at a more reasonable level. Have been looking at the fabspeed bypass for my 996 and figured with the cats it might be at a decent level.

had supercup and cat bypass on my 987. its not for the faint of heart. 991 has side and a 3rd center muffler. the bypass just removed the center. My 997 had fabspeed maxflow. It sounded ok.

Good afternoon! Fabspeed Motorsport will be more than happy to help you and guide you through the process. For starters what is the Porsche model, Gen & trim?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, yes option 150, "For use with leaded fuel", no cats. My 996 is very early build 10/1997 Gen 1 C2. It is an import from Germany via South Africa. It was bought to Oz as a "personal possesion import". Does anyone know what the exhaust system is? Is it the Supercup or is the Supercup a factory Porsche thing?

Update: I ended up going with a set of Fabspeed Maxflo mufflers. I haven't installed them onto my car but my hope is that they as loud, if no louder, than my stock Fister modded boxes. The main benefit is that they will be just over half the weight.

When you have chance to install those Maxflo's, please share your comments on sound of the exhaust.

How have you enjoyed your new system? Looking forward to rev videos!

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'll have to find the time to make some videos. I have found that the noise around town and a steady pace is slightly louder than stock, but when I get on it, there is a bark that is very satisfying. The drone from that I had with the straight pipes is gone completely. I am very happy with the Maxflo and they will be staying on the car. Some may find it a little loud but, keep in mind, my car was never fitted with cats.
