Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Repair videos' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair videos' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I hate when music replaces the engine exhaust as that's part of the experience so why overpower it with music I'm probably not going to like?

The E36 is my primary track car but I'll probably run the C2 the PNWR once or twice this year.

This guy did a nice simple vid where he captured the highlights, used a catchy tune...could have used more engine noise.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'll have this solved and will test everything ahead of the first events
Throughout last track season I got a lot of thumbs up and questions about my track videos and it got me thinking.
Why not put together some film detailing the car, its components, repairs, maintenance, race tracks, DE events, etc.?
Sooooo, I figured I'd gauge the level of interest.
What do ya'll think?
Is that something you guys would want to see and what would you want me to cover?
As a small example:
996 Milltek Mufflers
Track Video:
PCA Track Days
360 VR Track Video:
Chasing a 930 Turbo
Chasing a 991 GT3
Chasing a 991 GT3RS
Wide Angle:
Chasing a 997 GT3RS in the rain
Lapping the Ridge with my Dad
I watch 996 videos.
and 997. and ferrari. and BMW. and whatever else happens to come up.
IMHO one more guy talking about his car on youtube isn't going to stand out, unless it's great track video or you're solving a problem that is of interest to a lot of people.
but that's just me. I'm sure others would be interested.
Definitely YES, I will watch your videos especially any DIY work you do on the 996. Even now, I always search for "996" DIY videos on YouTube and keep watching them, it's fun. Thanks for putting those video links together because I am sure they are very useful as a reference point. Cheers,
I didn't mean to be a "Debbie Downer".....
let me qualify by saying I like watching track video, especially the Cup cars.
But the other day I saw a video of a track newbie describing mundane details about his car to the camera.
so if you post videos, make it informative (like your exhaust video)
Go for it! I'd definitely watch anything DIY, product reviews, tips, track prep. After enough laps, you might want to put a video of hot laps of specific tracks pointing our visual markers, braking points and inputs, shift points, throttle inputs, apex suggestions, etc.
If you're looking to polish it up... I think editing to get to the highlights and maybe putting background music is nice. Capturing engine sound is important, I can watch almost anything if it has good engine sound. If you want to get fancy, you can experiment with different camera mount points, using chase cars, or even drone footage.

Background music only works during dialog. I hate when music replaces the engine exhaust as that's part of the experience so why overpower it with music I'm probably not going to like?
Nice videos, I'll have to look out for you at the track. I track a black E36 and recently picked up a '02 C2. The E36 is my primary track car but I'll probably run the C2 the PNWR once or twice this year.
My biggest gripe about youtube is that smart phones and gopro's have made it easy for any kid to point a camera at their face and blab on and on in an unrehearsed fashion. There's a lot of car videos like this with shaky camera work and people walking around the car pointing the camera at something, pointing it back at their face, pointing it at something else, etc etc and its all so poorly done.
Limiting camera movement, having your thoughts well prepared, and a tiny bit of editing can make for a good video.
OMG that video had me cracking up!!!
The driver sounds possessed and he is doing a great job keeping up with the Mustang. But once victory is his the evil, maniacal laugh just caps it all. Love it!!!
Oh and about the repair videos - absolutely! I learn so much from Youtube that if I needed to I could probably perform heart surgery if someone puts out a video on it.
Thanks everyone for the feedback! Looks like I need to start shooting!
I'll start working on these now. Good news is track season begins soon and I'm working on a pretty ambitious video I think ya'll will really like.
More to come!
Alright,
youtube page is setup here
called Project 996.
Nothing added yet but track season is just a few weeks away. We're going to shoot a LOT of track video this year with the help of some friends.
Other than that I've got a few projects coming up I'll film:
-Both Window Regulators
-M96 Variocam Actuator Replacement
-GT3 Brake Master Cylinder and Complete Flush
-Coolant Tank Replacement and Flush
-Shift Linkage Adjustment
-Rennline Adjustable Pedal Install
More to come!
100% Transparency. I have no idea what I'm doing but I've shot and edited a lot of video so I think these will come out pretty good.
I've just put together:
Domain - Project996.com
Working on a decent Logo for "Project 996"
Quick intro to play at the start of each video
Will keep the updates coming
If I can make one suggestion... Crappy sound on dialogue and/or engine sounds is a delete for me. YouTube is full of reasonably shot videos with appalling sound. Good sound is critical, almost more than correct exposure, focus and framing etc - plus editing is also crucial.
To do all of this on your own is hard, very hard. But, imagine you're watching a great movie and the pictures are crappy but the sound is fine - you'll keep watching it. However, if you're watching the same movie and the picture are good and the sound is ****, more often than not you'll turn it off... good sound is really important and quite hard to do properly. Wind noise, over modulation, distortion, background leaf blowers/barking dogs/sirens/lawn mowers/PA announcements/background chatter etc are all things that can really ruin the moment.
If you have a budget, hire a sound guy - it'll make a massive difference to the end quality!!
Just my 2 cents worth...
AT
Completely agree.
My track videos were in dire need of a proper sound setup last year. There isn't a microphone input for the 360 camera but there is for the GoPros. I've got a few really good external mics I'll be using which will require more editing to sync sound/video. I actually don't care for the GoPros much as they require a lot more time to setup for each session (white balance). Will also be fiddling with using Harry's with its dual camera app to try and automate laying gauges over video. I've been trying to figure out how to do this for the VR videos which seems like it might be possible but will take 3-4 add'l editing steps - adding hours to each session which is a bummer.
I'll have this solved and will test everything ahead of the first events
very nice videos, how do you like your Miltek exhaust? Can you feel the gain in HP after you put them on?
Hopefully I will see you at the Ridge this year
Thanks! They'll be even better this year. I'll definitely see you out there, make sure you sign up for our first DE on April 8th at Pacific!
There isn't really much to gain just from the exhaust system unless you replace everything including intake and a tune. Even then the gains to $$ ratio is higher than I think I've ever seen - it gets expensive quickly.
I'd still do it all again. The car sounds amazing and is putting down near 300whp now.
