I finished up swapping a replacement engine in my 996.2 not long ago, and found that the signal from the CPS wasn't getting through the engine harness, I ran a replacement line for that sensor and got the car to fire up.

But it seems that wasn't the only section of the wiring harness that was damaged and I think I'm left with no option other than replacing the whole harness.I would rather not drop the engine again, so I'm wondering if anyone has replace the engine wiring harness with the engine in the car?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finished up swapping a replacement engine in my 996.2 not long ago, and found that the signal from the CPS wasn't getting through the engine harness, I ran a replacement line for that sensor and got the car to fire up. But it seems that wasn't the only section of the wiring harness that was damaged and I think I'm left with no option other than replacing the whole harness.I would rather not drop the engine again, so I'm wondering if anyone has replace the engine wiring harness with the engine in the car? I was thinking that lowering it down a few inches could given enough room, similar to doing the AOS.

POST 2Original post

If u lower, remove plenums and intakes u should be able to do it. The pass side intake is not that hard to remove because the aos is not in the way. There is a lot of wire under the ac compressor area too so that will probably have to be unbolted and lifted out if the way.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, De Jeeper. I'll give it a go with the engine in, and in the end the worst outcome is that I drop the motor which is what I assumed I had to do in the first place.

POST 4Original post

One of the harder places you get the wiring off is the rear left corner near the AOS but you should be able to do it without dropping the engine. Worst case lower the engine down will give you more access. Take pictures of the original routing as there are a few spots where the harness could go over or under certain things.

POST 5Original post

I would consider dropping the engine if it were me. It doesn’t take that long to do and replacing the wiring harness will be much simpler. You can then take care of other items that may be needed.
