Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When you find a failed bearing (and yours was failed, not failing) the only answer is to tear it down and have it cleaned properly.
Leading evidence: 'Clean properly' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean properly' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Whats the problem here >????
One's been tested for 3k and it's good and the other one is DUAL ROW !!!! and VERY good and perfect....
KEEPERS the both of them - i'll take both.........get yer pre tested very good - ehhmm Perfect bearings here.....
I'd buy one for a buck or so. Foolishly threw mine away when I replaced it with an LN. I may gold plate it, certainly no one has done that before.
Not to hijack this thread, but I have a couple used spark plugs and an old O2 sensor for sale if you are interested. Trade?
The bearing on the duel row would need to be changed but the shaft is perfect. The single row shaft are scarce and it has an ln bearing. I don't think some people realise the shaft and bearing are not the same part
Tell you what, let me get a guy in here who really knows these IMS bearings and see what he says, is that cool?
(later)
Sorry, best I can do is three bucks. I mean, a few years ago the IMS market was hot, but it's really cooled off now. Plus, I got overhead. I don't know how long this thing is going to sit on the shelf.
What we have here ladies and gentlemen is the beginnings of a "My LN bearing failed!1!1!!" thread. The only real question will be if por944trs is the unlucky one or if whomever buys it next gets to roll snake eyes
por944trs, you have fine debris throughout your motor. When you find a failed bearing (and yours was failed, not failing) the only answer is to tear it down and have it cleaned properly. There are lots of little crannies in the oil path where debris gets stuck only to finally come free at some random time in the future. There is no way a certified LN installer would have put that bearing in your car.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this has unfortunately shown to be true
You could very well be right, but Im not new this game, nor to porsche's. I made the decision not to rebuild, and am not overly concerned with what I saw. I bought this car knowing full well what it might or not be. And to be fair, have an extra motor, and master porsche techs in my immediate family. I have a little skin to lose , but not as much as some others. So I'll roll the dice and see what I get. And you were right to correct me, the bearing had failed, no matter how early in the stage of failure.
and I was just getting to respect you.
sigh,
Just a suggestion here, but you may want to invest in a full flow no-bypass filter system, mag drain plug and go on short drain intervals for a bit. Or - not, I guess.
Only if it meets the following requirements:
1- Mobil 1
2- Less than 15,000 mi. On it
3- it needs to be well strained - i.e.: nothing larger than can fit through a spaghetti colander...
Carry on... 👌
Back in the 70's when I was a Chrysler mechanic, we kept a bucket of sand with a filter underneath into which we'd pour old oil. It would eventually filter down thru the sand and become quite clean. At least, in appearance.
We'd never use it in a customer's car, but if anyone needed something for a lawnmower or other lower-value item, it was there for them. Some "customers" (more friends of other mechanics) who were short on $$$ would also use it in their older cars, especially if it was an oil-burner, with full knowledge of what it was and from where it came.
And this was when GOOD oil was <$1/quart.
I'm sure I could get a couple takers for my "old" air that was in my tires. Anybody want to join forces? Join up fee is $10K and I'll do all the work. In return you will be first to get future "old" air.
My wisdom just scares me sometimes......
