Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I bought a "Jug" from Jegs for a 3.2l M96 after noticing in a Porsche Factory engine assembly video that they use jugs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys I'm looking to get a tapered ring compressor for my next engine rebuild as I thought the banded type was hard work on my last rebuild now I know my bore diameter is 96mm but was wondering if there is any extra allowance needed or do I just buy a 96mm one?? Thanks for your input guys!!

POST 2Original post

I bought a "Jug" from Jegs for a 3.2l M96 after noticing in a Porsche Factory engine assembly video that they use jugs. Worked perfectly. I had to convert to Imperial and bought a very slightly undersized one. Related - remember to mark the position of the rings precisely of each as you remove the piston. Search for why and consider pinning the rings to prevent rotation. And remember the gap offset rules for adjacent rings. A far more exacting task is measuring for ovality and taper to determine if the rebuild should proceed or be aborted/other.
