Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used an O2 spacer on my son's car for awhile but that will not pass inspection of course.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need to replace one of my cats and was wondering if Magnaflow 49928 would be an ok version to put in my 2004 911 Carrera. Pros and cons. Can't afford $2k for a new cat,
I would think it would be a pig in a poke kinda thing not knowing the condition of the original donor car and the number of miles. Besides, not everyone is honest.
Tired of the P0420 codes. Already tried the catcan cleaner and 2nd sensor on bank 1. Tomorrow I'm having AOS replaced because of smoking at startup and new plugs. At the same time having the cylinders bore scoped. 55k miles
The magnaflow cats r 50 state carb compliant. They will work just fine on your car but they might not last 20yrs. The real question is how r your long and short term fuel numbers? U may have a fueling issue that caused an early cat failure?
I'm not an expert and I've never had to buy a cat for my cars, but plenty of experience with friends and family and getting them smogged in CA. Cats typically don't fail on a well maintained engine, even with age. You have an AOS problem and an oil burning engine can foul a cat. It's even possible to fix your AOS and the code will clear up as the oil burns off, so I'd try that first.
Your P420 is bank 1 so just address that bank. Don't throw parts at it. Try swapping o2 sensors left to right & see if code follows (P430). I think all the sensors are the same, even upstream vs downstream. I used an O2 spacer on my son's car for awhile but that will not pass inspection of course. Also, get a scanner with live I/M monitoring. A $60 Autel 519 will show you the 7 or 8 monintors clearing as you drive (cat and O2 are last two to clear). It even graphs the O2 voltage so you can see if a cat is getting weak.
For CARB states, you'd need to buy an approved cat to get smogged or even sell your car in these states. Look at your emissions hood sticker. I think they are all California though. An EPA only cat is only good for non-Carb state. Btw, growing up in the smoggy LA basin in the 70's I think cats, although a pain in the ***, are one of the greatest inventions of all time & would never run without them.
Good luck!
My cat failed/started to rattle so I replaced with Magnaflow. I live in CA and they are CARB legal and passed smog without issue. Bonus is they are way lighter than stock, the car is a little louder, and definitely faster. I registered them and have a 5/50k year warranty with Magnaflow.
I am also running Magnaflows on my '02 Cab, CARB approved as I am in N.Y. They are louder, car is much happier, feels quicker, improved gas milage is a bonus.
