Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

The wheel hub flanges on the 996 are weight optimized and chances (risks) are that using steel wheels with their limited stiffness in the center and limited contact area to the flange compared to alloy wheels, results in wheel bolts loosening or even failure of the hub flange itself (due to severely reduced durability as a consequence of high local stresses at the few and small contact points between steel wheel and flange).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

looking to Baja 2003 Carrera 996,looking for plain steel wheels, car has 17" wheels. Can i put different size wheels on car without too much alteration

POST 2Original post

I am new here and to the Porsche world but an experienced off roader. I would think you would need at least a 17" wheel to clear the brake calipers and assuming the width and offset is close to the same as stock wheels, you should be fine. Not sure who makes a steel wheel for the 996. But you are probably fine with a strong aluminum wheel. Im sure the factory wheels are very strong for an aluminum wheel. You could look for a forged wheel, but $$$$
