Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. Leading evidence: 'Replace not too long ago' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'exhaust system sales have stopped dead in their tracks' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check sums, and flash count' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I used (and I think Luis is still using) Fabspeed's mini-cats.

The sound is exotic with the tone changing as the RPMs change (most exhaust sounds stay around the same tone with the RPM changing but just get louder).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Who here is running the FVD catless x-pipe?? I currently have all stock exhaust with the Gundo mod bypass. It is definitely not loud or exotic enough for me. I am trying to find a very exotic sound for the car, and I am hearing that the Gundo mod plus the catless x-pipe sounds amazing. I originally was planning to go to the 997 GT3 center exit muffler with no cats, but this would require hacking up my stock bumper, or switching to a GT3 Cup bumper. I am not a huge fan of how short the GT3 Cup bumper is on the car. It doesn't look as finished or hang as low as the stock GT3 bumper I have currently on the car. Also it would require a lot more of my money to put a package like that together, and I am hearing that it wouldn't sound much different than what I have proposed above. I would even be open to swapping to different mufflers if need be to accomplish my desired tone, so let me know what you have.
Watch the videos on my YouTube channel from 2022.
I also have gundo hacked mufflers.
It is now too loud to drive at Palmer.
Their restriction is 95db.

Fwiw, there is a big difference from what you hear in the cockpit and what everyone hears on the side of the road and or track. The gundo is pretty impressive from the outside of the car under load. Add in 200 cell cats and you have a symphony.
I have the Speedtech catless x-pipe (very similar to the FVD I believe) which is made to order and the quality was top notch. When installed, there was no modifications or adjustments that were needed and it bolts right up. It is paired to the Gundo bypass mufflers.
The sound is exotic with the tone changing as the RPMs change (most exhaust sounds stay around the same tone with the RPM changing but just get louder). There is no drone whatsoever and no noticeable loss in low-end torque. I have gone through several different exhausts (from muffler delete to fully straight piped) and have heard plenty in person and to me, this is best sounding.

My 99 C4 with FSI 3.8 is running headers with FVD Brombacher catless x-pipe and Fister D Motorsports modified stock mufflers . Has a very nice growl under acceleration and an exotic off throttle sound . Drive it carefully and it's just a little louder than stock . A nice compromise .
I am running all the O2 sensors but using spacers on the " post " location . I am coming up on 900 miles on the engine and never a check engine light . The spacers work. Same for my Boxster S never a check engine light .
I am using straight spacers ( vs angled ) that are available at any local auto parts store . The ECU is just looking for a difference between the pre and post O2 sensors . By moving the post sensor a little ways out of the exhaust stream that creates a difference . Knock on wood I have never had a check engine light due to the sensors .
A friend of mine had an FVD catless x-pipe and I preferred it to my Fabspeed x-pipe.
The welds on the FVD were superior to the ones on the Fabspeed I had that I sold to Luis.
Also the area joined in the middle was larger on the FVD.
I used (and I think Luis is still using) Fabspeed's mini-cats.
I never had a CEL.
I'm now running Soul Sport Cats and the sound is comparable to the catless x-pipe.
It does both.
Cat Bypass Pipes are not C.A.R.B. certified (California) nor are they TV approved. They are for Racing use only. Catalytic Bypass will throw the Check Engine Light (CEL) so we recommend purchasing our FVD Brombacher Software, part #

Before you use a tune for this,, remember that depending on your state and age of car, they are starting to watch the ECU check sums, and flash count.
Luckily my state OR isn't one that will fail me on my cat if its fed but not cali-carb certified.
For those that need CARB cats, but want 200 cell cats:

Not FVD, but Fabspeed catless and their mini cats. No CEL or tune
The sounds more aggressive and screams above 3500. No drone. I commute 60 miles a day. 30 miles in at 3000-3500rpm, 20mph average on the way out
Every once in a while itll bog from a stop if Im too quick off the clutch with no gas, but no regrets.

Yeah, exhaust prices have skyrocketed this year accross the board. I suspect exhaust system sales have stopped dead in their tracks. I would love to hear an honest explanation from the manufacturers. Nevertheless, they are going to have to make some adjustments, because they will have a tough time selling anything in the current environment.
Looks like coilover prices are still contained and havent escalated. May be time to replace suspension parts instead of exhaust parts. But the suspension manufacturers are much bigger than the little exhaust shops. Hoping a couple of US manufacturers rise to the occasion and start making reasonably priced exhaust systems. Big enough market to make a couple of bucks.
I paid just under $1,000. This was 3 years ago.I looked up the current pricing vs what I paid because of

Side note though, the quality and fitment are excellent and I encountered no hiccups during install..
Just had mine installed. Already had the gundo hack done to my OEM mufflers. I don't recall what OD pipe the shop used. I had planned to eventually swap out the mufflers for additional weight loss, but now I'm not sure that I will. This is the best sounding 3.4 I have personally heard. It's kinda crazy how quiet in the car it still is (with windows up) compared to what it sounds like outside the car. I went under an overpass the other night at about 3/4 throttle, and it was almost startling. I do think I lost a little bit of low end with it, but I'm hoping a tune will bring most of, if not all, of it back. I'll enjoy the power increase incoming from cooler weather (SATX) and get it tuned sometime in the "Spring" next year before the temps climb back up. The loss of low end could also just be perception - when the car sounds like it does now, maybe I FEEL like I should be moving quicker than I am (below 3K RPM).
Followed Freddieworks and installed this beautiful x pipe. Last one in the USA. paired with Fister mod sounds amazing.
Here is my car. Trying to make it as nice as Freddieworks.
Hello, related to the catless xpipe. have a x51 03' Carrera. After FVD catless x pipe install (on top of Fister exhaust) I developed a low rpm (600-1800) stumble or hesitation under medium+ load. Driveability in certain low speed conditions is poor (starting on hill, driveway, 2nd gear rolling restarts) and spirited driving from a stop. I thought a tune would address it however there is no noticeable improvement or reduction to the stumble post-tune. Other mods include: K&N panel air filter and an intake air elbow (breather which was connected to OEM elbow now has a breather on it). No codes, plugs/coils replaced not too long ago.
Let me know if others have worked through this issue!
