I have three 996.2 and all of them could use the headlight wiring replaced.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As I have mentioned before, I've been working quite some time on offering a set of replacement internal headlight harnesses for the 996.2. I have offered them for the 996.1 for a few years now, but the problem with the 996.2's was the main connector plug, that is a proprietary Hella part that is no longer available.
My plan from the start was to somehow re-create the connector, but due to its intricacy, 3D printing it was not as straight forward as you would think. The problem was to obtain a solid fitment and retention of the pins, aa well as proper fitment of the little retaining clip that slides into the connector after all the pins are seated. I found a very good outfit in Oregon that was up for the challenge back in early March. They had to make a series of 3D scans of the connector, including a few that had to be cut open. I tested many iterations in the past few months, and this company was tireless and very gracious in staying with it. Last week we finally hit the jackpot with a connector/retaining clip that functions exactly as the original!
I just received the first batch of 3D printed connectors and clips and couldn't be happier.
I still have a few more minor other pieces to source to complete the harness, but then I will be able to offer a complete replacement that those of you courageous enough can use to get rid of that pesky peeling wiring mess that is the Porsche OEM harness.
I will make another post when I have the first few sets made and ready to ship. Probably 2 or 3 weeks.
For those of you that shudder at the thought of cracking open a $4,000 headlight (as I was the very first time), don't worry, I plan on also still offering the harness replacement service where you send in your lights and make it my problem
Thank you all for the positive responses!
The 996.2 headlight harnesses are up on the web site !
Pair of internal headlight replacement harnesses for Porsche 996.2 litronic
I don't have an inventory of them yet, but plan to in the next month or so.
I have ample supply of wiring and all the other connectors and components.
I have enough 3D printed main connectors to make 50 pairs.
I also invested in a computerized wire cutter/stripper as well as a pneumatic crimp tool!
For the next ~month I will assemble these harnesses to order, and after I hope to keep enough stock to ship these as well as the 996.1 harnesses the next day.
For the 996.2 halogen headlights I'm still missing one important connector. Still working on sourcing that one.
Picture time!
Nice! A few questions...
1. What type of wire are you using?
2. What gauges and lengths can the cutter/stripper work with?
3. Can it strip PTFE insulation?
4. Make and model?
Not looking to compete, we have a small aerospace company and we hand strip a lot of wire.
