Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After lurking these forums for over a year I finally dropped the hammer and bought my Pcar. I picked up a 2002 Meridian Gray C2yesterday in Campbell and drove it 100 glorious miles to home. I have been been contemplating what to write here. I'm feeling a bit of pressure as there are several accomplished contributors roaming the forums. Sadly, this is all I could come up with. I have wanted a Porsche since childhood so this was fulfillment of a life long goal. My brain has not totally accepted what I posses now as I am startled whenever I see it. Back to to the car. It's lightly optioned: Lightronic, Bose, memeort seats, Carerra II wheels and that's about it. Less is more in my mind and I couldn't be happier. It has only 55k miles and, dare I admit it here, the IMSB was replaced 10k miles ago along with the clutch. I looked at a lot of cars and drove four or five with mileage from 49k to 91k, '99s, '01,'04 and this one. This one stood out to me as "the one". Thanks to the group for sharing your knowledge and opinions here. I have learned much and am looking forward to turning wrenches on this baby!

POST 2Original post

Patience does pay off. Great buy and congrats.

POST 3Original post

I actually looked/drove that car, when I was searching. There are a few things I found, but all pretty minor.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I noticed a few things myself but nothing too alarming. Would be interested to hear your impressions.

POST 5Original post

Really minor stuff - I am super picky! The front bumper has crack/scratches in it on the bottom. Wheels were curbed. The passenger window regulator seems to be going, and something about the sunroof switch. The owner was a very nice guy who definitely took care of his car. I would have bought it if it had been just slightly better condition.

POST 8Original post

looking good, can you share how much you paid for it ? I am curious about value as my car is pretty close to yours.

POST 12Original post

Very nice rig! And in a subtle and unusual color that I find myself appreciating more and more as this generation of cars ages a bit. Very nice.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Agreed, it is an unusual color and not what I pictured driving when I set out to find a car. Like you, WalterRohrl, it has grown on me. Maybe I will be one of only 100 at the next Rennsport Reunion! Philoo, my car is also sans PSM, full leather etc. I paid low 20's for it.It is clean, aside from the items that Stan23 mentioned (all pointed out by PO). Fifteen year old car will have some issues to sort. These seem like low buck items as compared to what could go wrong.

POST 15Original post

Congrats love that colour! Same wheels as mine, they look great and are super easy to keep clean.

POST 16Original post

Very nice - congrats and welcome! Strong first post with just enough back story and lots o' pics. Nice job. Don't be a stranger.

POST 17Original post

Great looking car ! welcome to the ( very) rewarding ownership of a 996 carrera. A great sports car.

POST 18Original post

The single most important thing you can do is ask here fora Competent & Honest Indie in your area. Put your location in your details so we can help you ? The best Indie is the most reliable way to ensure you avoid the serious pitfalls and financial disasters of ownership. He is also a good contact for when you want to buy/sell again. Wow ,I admire your patience and persistence in looking for so long.

POST 19Original post

Nice looking C2 with pretty low miles. Appears to be a nice find, congrats!

POST 20Original post

Congrats! I'm curious about the colour. It looks identical to my car (including the wheels!) which is Seal Grey and I couldn't find anything but Meridian Blue in the colour charts. What's the colour code?

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Billyboy The color is called Meridian Metallic on the original window sticker that I have. I will need to look for the paint code. From what I thought, Seal Gray is darker than Meridian. My color is pretty light and appears to have different hues depending on the light. So far I have seen silvers, purples and pinks in the color. It is very, shall I say, unique. I can see why some would not care for the color. Schnell I am in the Sacramento area. I think getting to know a good Indy is a great idea. I am a DYI but always good to have a back up plan. Indy recommendations in Sacramento would be appreciated! As far as patience, I had nothing but time. Combine that with the genetic deficiency of being an engineer, I MUST research all that I do. It's a disease. I have a VW Passat TDI that I bought in Feb 2015. As some of you may know, by September of 2015, VW was outed for fibbing about how their cars deal with NOX and CO. Since then, I have been looking at my options for replacement as I was not going to risk deep disappointment with VW's "fix" (which has yet to be approved). When I bought the Passat, it was a compromise as I needed to fit three kids and a wife in the car on occasion. As such, my wife promised me my next car could be a Porsche. Welll....I still have the kids, and the wife but the Porsche is at maximum capacity with four on board. I'm fairly certain divorce papers have not been drawn up but I know I am on the hook for some shiny bits for her next anniversary (and not the kind that can be found in oil sumps!).

POST 22Original post

" I am a DYI but always good to have a back up plan. Indy recommendations in Sacramento would be appreciated !" If you have a good long term relationship with an Indie he will do the diagnosis for a fee and let you do the wrenching. Perhaps he would do some work on your family car? Perhaps you would refer friends and family? That is why I always stress the Competence/honesty/relationship combo. An Indie like that is often a great way to get leads on interesting cars before they are offered on the open market or are dumped at CarMax for peanuts.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Schnell Gelb i agree in developing a history and building trust with a good mechanic. I think that is what has lacked in the few times I have taken cars in to dealerships (Toyota and VW). I always feel like I got duped. Do do you have any recommendations for good Indys in the sac area?

Congrats on the car - and as far as "less is more," I completely agree. Fewer things to go wrong is a good thing when you have a 15-year-old car...
