That location is known for having oil spray ( on 996.1 cars) from the "AOS blow-off valve" part # 996 107 047 51 .....The 996.2 cars do not use this blow-off valve and I recommend just capping it off to prevent leaks when using the UAOS System...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My spark tubes are definitely leaking, but i'm also seeing oil over the part right at the top. I assume it's possible oil could spray upwards from the tubes, but it seems unlikely as this piece is recessed. it's hard to tell in the photo, but it is covered in a thin layer of oil. Passenger side. the main gasket too could be leaking, but i just can't see from top down and not sure if there is a seal up on that side in the photo is the small part dead center with wires coming out of it

POST 2Original post

Passenger side? Dollars to donuts: the leak is from the AOS vent tube nearby.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19810246

Yes passenger side (updated post). Is there a way to get access to that tube easily to verify? Is that a sign of failing AOS? (luckily happen to have a UAOS, sitting ready to go)

Blow-off valve/bank 2 head connector for 996.1 engines

POST 5Original post

From above, you'll find the AOS vent here. It's hard to see because power steering and A/C lines are in front of it (absent from this picture).

Thanks adding this to instructions for indy when i can do UOAS install

Your welcome !! I probably need to add that tidbit to the FAQ on the UAOS website...

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 19810258

Are there any potential negatives to capping it?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 19810282

No negatives .. this feature was eliminated by Porsche mid-year 2002 due to the high propensity of oil leakage...

POST 10Original post

do you just use the 996.2 part? https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...107-047-00-OEM

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 19811152

I don't think it's possible. The 996.1 AOS vent is attached with a single bolt. It's also listed on Pelican as being 27mm, compared to the 996.2 part being 35mm; but I don't know what that is measuring. The port and o-ring for the 996.2 looks different than the 996.1 vent.

POST 13Original post

For anyone future reference, the 996.1 AOS vent is 16mm in diameter. I used a 5/8in (~16mm) high-temp silicone coolant bypass cap to close it off. From Amazon: https://a.co/d/4X59pCM I used a sharp xacto knife to cut the cap down to an appropriate length.
