Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all, I recently replaced my old 4 spoke steering wheel with a new one thats been refinished. Looks great, feels great, also 4 spoke.
My car is a very early build and the old steering wheel actually has a 993 code on it. The new one is a 996 code.
The issue is that the SW is slightly off in alignment and not perfectly turned center. Ive tried shifting it the other way by one notch but that sets it off even more in the opposite direction.
Curious if anyones run into this issue.
My guess is the splines on the steering wheels can differ due to manufacturing differences. Put the steering wheel back the one notch on the steering wheel shaft, then take it to an alignment shop. They can dial it in with a few tweaks of the outer tie rods. Probably take 15 minutes.
There is a (actually two) casting marks on the pinion shaft housing and the (sheared-off) pin in the black plastic cover opposite it, should align and the steering wheel should then be straight ahead on whichever tooth yields this result.
To make the car drive straight with that steering wheel position requires rear and front axle to be parallel and toe on each axle should be equal left to right (as should camber).
To avoid repeated visits to alignment shop, I would do a four wheel alignment.
Isn’t it quarter turn CW to pull the steering wheel towards you and then loosen the other side CCW a quarter turn? Seems simple, but I can’t recall the “proper” order of steps.
Yeah, something like that, but some people don't have that skill set. This is really simple for an alignment shop. They lock the steering wheel dead center from above, then can align the tie rods PLUS make sure the toe is correct. Not a big deal to do but well worth it in the end. Really a quality alignment shop could do this in short order and for not much money.
You want the steering rack centered in this whole exercise as this ensures equal steering feel between turning left and turning right out of the straight ahead.
Then you do (or have it done) as advised above.
