Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Went to start my 1999 996 C2Cab (cable throttle) after it being garaged for about 5 days and it spikes at 3k RPM! YIKES! Runs a while at that and then drops down to 2K, then decides on it's own (like Christine) to rev from 1K to 2K over and over again for about a minute or so (no error lights or CEL) then suddenly it drops down once warmed up to it's normal smooth idle which is like 8 then settles down a bit further on the road.. Drove it and the car was really responsive, later starts all fine. Again no error lights. Tried code reader but seemed to be fine. All I did between starts was tighten gas cap, remove and replace oil filler cap, dip stick. Looked at hoses and clamps, connections for MAF,. Throttle Body was clean about a month ago. Researched this a ton but did not find this exact random issue, welcome input from the vets here. Any thoughts from the community? It seems to be fine now. Drove it all afternoon. Generally the compartment is tidy, 997 intake. Plenum clamps look ok. Peak rev on startup.... Standing idle aftermath...

POST 2Original post

Interesting. Mine is an '02 C2 Cab and frequently sits for 2-3weeks between starts. It has never done this. Maybe specific to the cable throttle cars, or the .1 cars. Or something is wrong with my car. It sounds like it's running well. Maybe a point of interest instead of worry.

POST 3Original post

You need to check and clean your Idle Control Valve (ICV) which is located on the left side of the throttle body. They get gummed up and cause erratic idle. Do a search on this forum, there are plenty of threads on how to do this.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
