Suggestion
On my most recent tire change I toyed with the idea of going to a slightly different aspect ratio and / or width and dealing with my speedo being off by a bit in order to try out some different tires, but in the end I just went with PS2's again.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I did some research into this when I needed new tyres - I only wanted Michelin (the marketing clearly worked on me)
Anyway was told that the PS2 is still the tyre for the 996 and is the only N rated tyre that Michelin offer for the 996.
Others may like other Michelin tyres and may consider them to be better and newer but in terms of N rating PS2 are the only ones that have it.
The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is the successor of the Super Sport. For Porsche it means that it could become the successor for the PS2 if they will release a PS4s for the 18inch 996 sizes. Which I doubt they will.
I am further not so fixated on the n-rating. If you have not that much rain where you drive you could consider the Pilot Sport Cup 2. Not cheap and not an N-rated tyre but better then the PS2 except for rain.
I am not a fan of the PS2 in the 18inch size for the 996. Somehow I do not like how they communicate. Little bit soft sidewalls. Perfect for comfort, not that great for feedback and control under more spirited driving conditions (warming: personal opinion).
I am more than happy with the stiffer Bridgestones S02a. And since last year completely hooked on Yoko AD08r for summer. They perform better in the wet then the Michelin Sport Cup 2. Last longer. Very good dry grip and a stiff sidewall. Makes the ride a bit hardheid and noisier but I think they are a very good match for an 911.
FWIW, I had pilot sport cup tires when I bought the car. It was like riding on the rims. Changed to continental extreme contacts. Been very happy with them and at 16000 miles they have good tread left.
I got my car with some really really old Pirellis, they rode like the Flintstone mobile. The hardness has to do with the age of the tire. I immediately replaced them with Pilot Super Sports. They are quite supple with nearly unyielding grip.
Is it an N-coded PS4s?
Here in Europe there are no 18 inch PS4S at all right now. I doubt there ever will be.
Makes me wonder why they differentiate the market as such.
225/40R18 265/35R18 it seems
And indeed there are PS4s available over there.
For some of you the stock size in the rear is 285/30/18 but no PS4s in that size.
996.1 18" = you have lots of options for tires in stock 18" sizes, Michelins or otherwise
996.2 18" = PS2 or Sport Cup 2 if you want Michelins
On my most recent tire change I toyed with the idea of going to a slightly different aspect ratio and / or width and dealing with my speedo being off by a bit in order to try out some different tires, but in the end I just went with PS2's again.
Next tire change I will switch to Yoko Advan Sport v105 (non N) as my winter tires; 235/40/18 front and 275/35/18 rear. Hardly any snow or real winter conditions here and I really like the wet traction of the v105 on my other car.
