Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found this car https://www.porschedelaware.com/vehi...de-id-25469789 online and drove down to look at it this afternoon. I think the price is way too high by about $10k. Am I crazy? Other than that, I really like it. It's in very good condition as far as I can tell. I like the way it drives. The only other 911 I've ever driven is my 1980 SC Targa. My only concern is that the clutch picks up later than I'd like. Maybe it's about half way up when it starts to pick up. Is that normal? If we come to terms, pending a PPI, I'd really like to buy it. I tried what I could, top, windows, AC, lights, radio, etc. It all worked. I did notice that the top headliner is starting to sag above the windows. I imagine that's normal on a 14 year old car. The exterior condition of the top was excellent. In fact, the entire exterior of the car was very good. There was a small crack in the left rear tail light. One odd thing is that the hard top apparently is already sold - they're checking. Another smaller issue is that the convertible top air dam is missing.

POST 2Original post

I agree. $10K too much money. I can't imagine they would negotiate down to $25K though. The clutch feel could be a symptom that it is about due for a new clutch. What is the service history with respect to the IMSB and the other components that are commonly due around that mileage? I'm thinking water pump, rear main seal and AOS in particular. Oddly, the original build did not include the hardtop. So no telling where it came from before it departed.

POST 3Original post

I think you should continue looking for that amount of money.

POST 4Original post

Thats approaching turbo territory. The Delaware dealership is out of touch with 996 pricing.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The maintenance book is with the car. It only shows routine oil and fluid changes which is a good thing. I've got no information about the clutch, IMS or water pump so unless they can prove otherwise, I'm guessing it's all original. I've done a ton of reading about the IMS bearing but I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with AOS. My plan with a car like this would be to get the clutch and IMS taken care of ASAP. Anyway, I also doubt they'll drop the price $10k so I'll keep shopping. I'll still ask however. Thanks for the replies Dave

POST 6Original post

There was a Mk2 Carrera 4 cabriolet listed at a local Ford dealership and a Mk2 RWD Carrera cabriolet at the BMW dealership where I work. Both had low miles and same color/options as the one you've listed in your original post. Both dealerships were asking around $25,000.

POST 7Original post

Yes, it is at least $10K overpriced. I'd keep looking.

POST 8Original post

Sounds like the dealer's motto should be, "You can find better, but you won't pay more!"
