Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
when my old ford truck did that they told me it was the synchronizers, and had to replace the transmission
Leading evidence: 'synchronizers, and had' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'synchronizers, and had' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace subcontractors' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Someone on another board had her tranny replaces under warranty by porsche, when the same thing happened.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 9-day old Targa (450 miles so far) has popped out of second gear 4-5 times when coasting. No grinding or noise, just pops into neutral. My mechanic thinks it needs a transmission replacement. Anyone experience something similar?
I know the gearbox of mine has been completely changed at no cost by the dealer due to a deffect.. It is perfect now (got a shorshifter and i recommend it a lot)

25-day old C4S, no problems with transmission. No short shifter yet, but it feels so much shorter than my M5, I think I'm going to keep it stock, at least for a good while.
Only observation I have is that my stock shifter seems just great in the 1-2 gear throw that I've read others say is a bit notchy. For me it's the 5-4 downshift - it's sometimes a bit awkward if I'm doing it quickly - sometitmes I feel like I'm about to go 4-2 downshift, so I make extra sure and spend a bit more time whenever doing a 5-4 downshift.
Surprised that we are still seeing these problems. I thought these were isolated to certain build times of 2002-2003 996's, where they had problems with a specific subcontractor that made the synchros. They even identified a series of VIN's. They shipped a boatload of transmissions to handle the replacement requirements. They have since changed subcontractors. I thought it was over with.
OK, does he need a tow truck then?
It's an inside joke, Jester. If you had access to the Off Topic forum you would be in on it as well. (only paying Members can enter)
