Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This happens every time I start the car, crop duster amount, very bad. It clears up pretty fast. I tried to unscrew the oil filler cap when idling, no way, it's not budging. My car is a 2002 C4S. Whatcha guys think? Thanks, Pete

POST 3Original post

^Yes and it's best to address it asap. Too much oil can get sucked into the intake and hydro lock the cylinders.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the quick replies. I don't think I will tackle this job myself. Ballpark figure as to how much this repair will cost? My car has a Tip if that makes a difference.

POST 6Original post

You need to call around and find an experienced trusted shop that knows Porsche cars. The job is difficult (major PITA) with the engine in the car. From what others have posted figure $1200-$1500 with engine in car. Depending on age/mileage, there might be a lot of "while you are in there" costs added.

POST 7Original post

it reads like an aos. oil is not really old or over-filled ? mine seems to remind me an oil change is up-coming

POST 8Original post

Hydro lock is a real possibility (ask me how I know!). I got lucky, but if I were you I'd flatbed that baby to whoever you choose to do the job. Cheap part that is hard to get to = way too much money, but you have no choice.

Get the AOS replaced as quickly as you can...don't let this simple wear item cause damage to your engine. The AOS is an inexpensive part, ~$120-150, the shop will charge you between 4 and 8 hours of labor. Cost depends on the labor rate at your shop of choice. Budget $1000, your bill will likely land between $800 & $1200.

POST 10Original post

I don't usually subscribe to the stop-driving-fix-it-now mentality, but the amount of oil it takes to hydrolock an engine is measured in ml, not cups or quarts...

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks so much everyone, I will not be starting the car and will have it towed.

POST 12Original post

Boy, I feel stupid............what's AOS? EDIT: Air/Oil Separator ......duh. Nevermind.

POST 13Original post

sadly for a TIP, more labor is involved. If you still have the original IMSB, now is a good time to consider an upgrade.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And off she goes to get repaired. I will post a update when the smoke clears, get it?

POST 15Original post

How many miles on the car? What shop are you taking it to? Goodluck with it

POST 16Original post

Beautiful machine Pete! You're making the right decision IMHO. Curious, how much do you drive this car? Was it stored up for the winter and you just now getting it back on the road? Or, do you drive it on weekends and just noticed the problem?

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13369893

110,000 miles. It's being repaired at Midwest Performance Cars. I should have it back tomorrow.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13370325

I stored it all Winter in a heated 60 degree garage. First drive of the season everything was fine, when I started it for the second time it was smoking badly. I guess these cars really need to be driven.

POST 19Original post

curious what WHILE YOU ARE IN THERE items you are going to get checked/done?

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13371411

Nothing else really. Less then 12,000 miles ago, spark plugs, coils, water pump, belt, coolant tank and Tip trans service was all done at the same time.

POST 21Original post

dare I utter these words: IMSB still original?

The previous owner claimed that it was changed prior to his ownership. He had no documentation proving that it was done. He had a stable of cars mine being the runt, seemed like a stand-up guy and the price was right so I took the chance.
