Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

- RMS: once the tranny was dropped a couple seals & hoses looked to need replacement, so I replaced several seals & hoses that are relatively low cost parts that were several years old and showing wear.
Leading evidence: 'Replace several seals & hoses' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check particles (also done' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
When you do this job, you also want to remove the rads from the car, and clean the heck out of them from back to front with air pressure, and water spray.

Suggestion
The oil filter should have been cut and inspected prior to purchase, so that's the one I would do asap.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Well finally bit the bullet and found a nice C4 Cab with 94k on it. It has a great maintenance history as far as basic stuff but never had nor needed anything more. As this car is meant to be and will be driven what should be done to it? Working on Porsches is not a problem but familiarity of 996 is not the strong point, mainly worked on Cayennes. Any help with the list would be appreciated.
Will Do: (What brands should be used)
Oil Change, cut filter apart to check for particles Mobil 1 0w-40 or Castrol 5w-50
Oil Filter - Mahle
Plugs Beru, Bosch, or?
Air Filter Mahle
Cabin Air Filter - Mann
Bleed brakes (pads / rotors are good) - ATE TYP200
Belt (do the tensioner and idler pulleys need done also) - Continental
Fuel Filter - Mahle
Transmission fluid - Mobil 1 Delvac 75w-90
Diff Fluid - Mobil 1 Delvac 75w-90
Not sure about
:
Water Pump, if so which brand?
Coolant Change
Power Steering Fluid Flush
Help:
IMS, should be done or just watched. Also what else would you do if you are doing this?
RMS?
Clutch? (Brand Sachs? OEM?, LUK?)
AOS?
Other?
Thanks
I just bought an 03 C2 and researched quite a few things.. a couple pointers:
- IMS: I spent 3.5k to get the oil-fed plain bearing installed, but that was to replace the weakest of 911 bearings (single row 02-04). Ims solution if you have a single row bearing. You can get a stronger bearing from LN or similar for less, though it is considered a wear part that needs to be replaced.
The problem with watching/monitoring is that failure isn't something you can reliably detect before serious damage occurs. So I replaced it for peace of mind. The engine on mine was checked and it's clean in terms of internals and there was no metal in the oil pan or filter. Odds are I just got a properly aligned engine that didn't wear out the IMSb as quickly as others.
- RMS: once the tranny was dropped a couple seals & hoses looked to need replacement, so I replaced several seals & hoses that are relatively low cost parts that were several years old and showing wear. This ended up including the AOS, RMS, various washers, a bolt on the tranny/engine mount, etc. My goal was to spend money now to refresh it, then monitor.
- Others: Don't install a lightweight flywheel without a full rebuild from a good builder. They tend to break crankshafts in otherwise OEM motors like the 3.6L.
Enjoy, that's a pretty cab. Looks to be in great shape. Cool wheels too!
Congratulations and welcome! You got a beautiful 996 cab.
My indie swears by Liqui Moly oil. I think the recommended weight is 0W-40.
If your engine has the single row bearing then I'd say upgrade. IMS Solution is arguably the best replacement. If it has the dual row you can probably leave it alone.
Most choose to replace the clutch (and possibly flywheel) and the RMS when the IMSB is being done.
Oh yea - don't forget engine mounts.
Otherwise, enjoy the driving!
Great-looking car, congrats!
Your list looks good. As for the following:
Not sure about
:
Water Pump, if so which brand? If your are doing other stuff, sure.
Coolant Change: Yes
Power Steering Fluid Flush: Don't think so, but I'll let others chime in.
Help:
IMS, should be done or just watched. Also what else would you do if you are doing this? You will get opinions all over the place on this one. No set answer.
If you do the IMSB, yes.
RMS? If you do the IMSB, yes.
Clutch? If you do the IMSB, yes.
AOS? Yes.
If there is no record of the motor mounts ever being replaced or the tail pipes sag a little I would recommend changing them. Cheap and makes a big difference.
Nice car. Shocker(not) - it's silver.
Heat kills. It kills a lot of things. Best and least costly upgrade I've done so far is the center rad kit and 160F thermo with new coolant. Improved AC function, less fan use, less strain on alt, better hot oil pressure(less hot of course), and so far, either better fuel econ, or I'm not driving it as hard as before. When you do this job, you also want to remove the rads from the car, and clean the heck out of them from back to front with air pressure, and water spray.
The oil filter should have been cut and inspected prior to purchase, so that's the one I would do asap. Maybe get that LN full flow oil filter kit? BTW, there is a chip detector that used to be avail for the oil sump, but I don't know if it's still offered.
The list has been updated with everyone's suggestions. One thing not yet addressed in the suspension, what pieces should be updated? On the Cayenne's all the rubber mounting points where gone after 10 years, will this car be the same? Then there are the struts, this will be just a fun street car so not looking for highly upgraded parts.

Help:
Plugs – (Brand: Beru? Bosch? or?)
Clutch - (Brand: Sachs? OEM? LUK?)
Water Pump – (Brand: Laso? Pierburg? Other?)
Suspension – Don’t know what should be done
Thanks for all the input so far!
Plugs – Beru or Bosch? pick one, it does NOT matter.
Water Pump – Pierburg is an OEM supplier w/o PORSCHE part #/price tag
Clutch - SACHS is an OEM supplier
Suspension - take a gander over here:
