Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 1999 996. Can I perform an amberectomy on these headlight turn signals and taillights? I do not want to get in there and make a mess of things. Please advise.

POST 2Original post

A few of the many threads about this (in case you missed them when you searched) https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...e-ambered.html https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...berectomy.html https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ggestions.html Good pics in post #32: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...berectomy.html One more link: http://hverheyen.vssi-eda.com/box_pics/lights/

POST 3Original post

Why ruin a good early car - just sell it to someone who cares and buy a face lift model.

POST 4Original post

Nope. Those early cars had amber covers. In later cars the amber on the headlights was an interior piece that could be removed, I did mine.

POST 5Original post

I kinda like the amber. But I guess you could always upgrade to Litronics, which had clear turn signals?

POST 6Original post

You could sand off the amber portion on the headlights. This has been down a few times but it requires a lot of elbow grease/labor. For the rears, if you wanted to take a budget approach in making them look more modern and unified to the clear fronts, you could always use transparent red tint spray or vinyl wrap.
