Otherwise, PCCM and PCCM+ are really just headunits and they seem to install/be used just fine..

If you're trying to use the small-screen PCCM in order to run a center console delete, I and others have been working on solutions to keep the best of both worlds.

If a replacement headunit does not support the MOST/fiber connectors, then you have to have a MOST adapter (RCA to fiber converter) if you want to keep using the existing fiber optic connected amplifier.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

We need to figure out a way to make the PCCM Single Din work in a 996. Porsche just said they dont offer it in a 996. Any idea why? Why is it not compatible? Is there any work arounds?
Someone sold a car on Bring A Trailer with one done so it can be fitted. Was there loss of functionality as a retrofit? Who knows. I need answers. Its bugging me.
Ive seen that car but what audio system do you have? Im guessing HiFi equipped cars are a tad more complex so that info might help people who can actually help answer your question.
I have the 680 option, MY1998-2001 DSP Digital Sound Processing, MY 2002-2005 Bose sound system (analog). Its a Bose CD-R23. Ive read another posting stating something about a yellow wire? Also something to do with a DAP module that you need to have adapted??? Not sure.

The DIN 1 PCCM will work in your 996. Just be advised though that the DIN 1 does not have all the features as a DIN 2. You also will no longer be able to use the CD changer if your car is equipped with one..
There we have it. It works. Fantastic. Assuming not all features means missing some non crucial items.

Edit: right, forgot about the fiber optic...
From my research it will work with non MOST cars (ie BOSE fiber optic system) but will be an issue with a MOST car.
I came to the conclusion I would have to rewire the car and get a new amp or try a decoder which has mixed reviews I am no expert though.
I ended up with a PCCM+ and its so nice and totally PnP.
I'm not worried about the fiber optic MOST bus - I have a converter for that. Please tell me more about your center console delete solution... I'm thinking more and more of swapping out my knock off PCCM+ for a PCCM and going console delete.
Sorry I need a few things clarified. What is a MOST? And what are the fibre optic and adapters that youre referring to?
The console delete is what the GT3 RS has. IMO the way to go for the Motorsport look and feel.
MOST is the fiber optic bus. So cars with a MOST headunit have fiber optics connecting to the amplifier, cd changer, etc. If a replacement headunit does not support the MOST/fiber connectors, then you have to have a MOST adapter (RCA to fiber converter) if you want to keep using the existing fiber optic connected amplifier.

Even if you choose to buy the PCCM classic? Which I am. I do have the Bose with the CD changer and CDR23. Wasnt even aware I had an amp, assuming its in the front by the battery? Should I upgrade my amp as well? Any benefits to that? Do I still need this adapter if I get them PCCM classic?

Yes. You will need that adapter to send the audio signal to your existing amp. From the PCCM you'll need a line out converter to convert the PCCM speaker output to an RCA output, then stuff it all in the dash and motor along.
It works fine in my 2002 with Bose, non-MOST 996. I did but the factory adapter to bring the volume down. Initially, the volume at 5 was the equivalent of the CR-220 at 15.
Man thats clean. Exactly what Im looking for with the console delete too. Nice work. Too bad the console delete is so damn expensive for what it is, price looks to be around $1000 USD. Brutal for us Canadians too. Is that a prototipo steering wheel? What do you think of it?
The wheel is the Porsche Classic wheel made by Momo. It's really just a Momo Mod 07 with smooth leather and a red Porsche logo engraved on the right spoke.
The head unit is good functionality wise. It's bluetooth without wireless carplay. Sound quality is better than the CR-220. Probably because of the better built in equalizer. The display is small which makes it easy to press the wrong "button."
It looks far less cheesy than most aftermarket options and the audio quality is better than those Continental units everyone likes to install these days. To each their own I guess.
