I think Kristina needs to check the car for intermix BEFORE trying to drive it anywhere.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im a proud new owner of a 1999 looking for a local shop to have the have temperature light checked out (its blinking) as well as inquire about having the IMS bearing addressed. Any recommended shops in the Charlotte market?
Located just north of Charlotte NC
https://topautomotiveinc.com/
Porsche of Asheville is also a certified installer of LN IMS bearings, but of course, that's a dealership and you'll pay more for service.
I live in South Charlotte and take my 996 to Eurofed Automotive, I am also familiar with Nick at Top Automotive but just too far for me to drive and Eurofed is located close to a light rail stop and so am I so very easy for me to get back and forth to them and they do good work at a reasonable. I actually gave the M96 engine out of my 2001 to Nick at Top Auto after it suffered an intermix problem and I replaced it with a used one, Nick of Top Automotive occasionally drops videos onYouTube search for topautomotive on YouTube if you'd like to see him at work
A member here mentioned BFR in Denver NC..I haven't given them a shot yet as I'm new down here since June ....and trying to figure out if I'm actually in Dante's 3rd Circle of Hell.
Thanks. That was supposed to be referencing the Porsche dealership in Asheville. The link got dropped in the wrong place when I edited the post.
But I'm sure he can find it using the URL.
Touring Car located on the south side of Charlotte is an option too, Dan (the owner) has been around the Porsche community for many years.

or I believe Jim Burton is still working at the Hendrick dealer on Independence Blvd. Jim was factory trained on 996s back in the day before having his own independent shop, and then going back to the dealer.
I've had great experiences at Sonderwerks in Cornelius. They've done some work on my 911SC and seem very knowledgeable about the water cooled models as well (there are a ton of them there being worked when I've been there)
FWIW the person listed as the contact there by L&N is no longer with Porsche of Asheville, he started his own shop in the area and works at a Ferrari dealer part time in Greensboro. I'm not 100% sure of the situation, he seemed like a nice dude when I spoke with him, but if you call Porsche of Asheville asking for him, he won't be there, so call him directly. I've not had anything done by him yet, but did speak to him a bit several weeks ago.
Fact is there are plenty of very good Indi Porsche shops inside the Charlotte metro area, the thing everyone seems to be ignoring is dude says red temp light is blicking and I think, correct me if I'm wrong, thats a low coolent level indicator and maybe shouldn't drive it anywhere without sorting that first or maybe it's allready too late
Good point. I think Kristina needs to check the car for intermix BEFORE trying to drive it anywhere. If there is confirmed milkshake in the reservoir or sump, then towing it is the better course of action. Also, that problem needs to be solved before ANY IMS retrofit procedure is carried out.

You really need to first look at the quality of the coolant in the expansion tank. Is it clear with a pinkish red color or look like light colored chocolate shake?
Report back BEFORE driving.
Out of curiosity, has anyone used GMP or Top Automotive recently? I know the quality of shops change over time and I'm looking to have an engine out done on my 996TT over the winder to get a bunch of things sorted out.
Sonderwerks did my IMS and clutch about 6 months ago. I found them to be trustworthy.
There is also a new Porsche dealership in Charlotte.
Porsche Charlotte Northlake
is where I take my 2001 Carrera Cabriolet now. They did my cooling system and brake fluid flush / refill, and my convertible top hydraulics replacement. They also charge $199 an hour for work on a 'classic' Porsche, instead of the usual $249 per hour for everyone else.
Not sure about GMP or Top Automotive, used to drive right by GMP on my way to work every morning, from what I know of Top Automotive they seem to be also Top Dollor like dealer priceing, earlier I recomended Eurofed I am withdrawing that because recently caught them trying to charge me for work not done, no longer use them and went back to MP Motorwerks an excellent choice, I would have to agree with your assessment that the quality of shops change over time I myself have experience this time after time
Yeah Ive actually gotten estimates from both and they aren't too far off. I think the hourly for TA is $175 and for GMP was like $165. With it being as close as they were I would moreso prefer to decide between the quality and attention although the feedback I've gotten on both are good. Nick at Top Auto owns a 996tt as well and seems to do a ton of Mezger work.
Hagerty had an event at GMP last month where the owner gave us a tour of the shop. It seems to be a very well-run business, where they care about the cars they work on. The custom work they do in the metal shop is unbelievable.
Thats awesome. Is this the Charlotte or LKN location? Wish I had known about it, as someone whos part of the Hagerty ecosystem I probably should have lol.
I have been going to Dan at Touring Car for over 20 years for regular maintenance and track prep on my M3s and Porsches.
If you are closer to Uptown, theres a relatively new shop, Eurocars South End on S. Tryon and these guys are great car guys and do a great job.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Eurowise. They started and are known for the lifted Cayennes but now works on everything from Lamborghini, GWagens, Ferraris, but especially 911s.
Maybe there is a Eurowise in PA, but Eurowise / Eurowise Service / Eurowise Performance / Eurowise Offroad is located here in Charlotte. They were big in the VW / BMW community, but have become a go to for many brands, I know folks with good and bad experiences with them, but with other options in place they wouldn't be my personal choice (unless I was doing a lifted Cayenne, and in that case they are definitely the go to stop seeing that they developed the kit).
GMP performance 710 pressley rd. and 292 Rolling hill rd. Mooresville
Top notch!
I live in Florida now but if I were still in NC. I would go to them again for sure.
Regards
Tom
