I have fitted a set of Fabspeed Maxflow and, without cats on my car, it is loud at WOT, but nice around town.
Leading evidence: 'Install set of fabspeed maxflow and, without cats' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean but others 100% perfect' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. So there's not much I can tell you about option M150, other than it's purpose was to be used with leaded fuel.

Has anyone fitted the Rennline Cup exhaust and ran the car without them on?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all
I recently ordered some straight pipe (muffler deletes) for my C2, with the intent of reducint weight. Whilst I'm waiting, I have removed the mufflers from my car. It is worth pointing out that my car came from the factory with no cats (Option M150), so it is louder than a standard 996. The mufflers that I took off have had the Fister mod, and my car was already load. With the mufflers off it is considerably louder, as expected, and I'm comfortable with that. What I'm not happy with is the noise it makes off throttle. From what I can see, the pipes that I have ordered are about a foot long, then have a 90 degree bend and then another half a foot long. Does anyone have experience as to how these small pipe extentions will affect the noise? Has anyone fitted the Rennline Cup exhaust and ran the car without them on? I've read that bends can reduce nosie, and the added length may also reduce noise.

The extra length and bend in those muffler bypass pipes will not meaningfully reduce the noise. Its as effective as trying to raise the sea level by pissing in the ocean.
Edit: Haha, I just had a hilarious idea. Turn the tips down when you install them.
I'd heard of option M150 on 996s, but this is the first time I read about a car that was actually fitted with it. Can you tell us more about the car (MY, options, etc.) ?
As for the noise, you've essentially straight-piped your car, so it's no surprise it sounds like a racecar
Ok guys thanks for the responses. I had a bit of spare time at the office today so I fabricated up a couple of L-pipes and fitted to the car. It made no difference to the overall sound level but it did stop the fluffing noise that I previously experienced with throttle lift.
The sound is absolutely brutal! I live on a 100 acre property in the country so the neighbours won't be an issue. I'll just have to see how long I can live with it, as I've also pulled out all of the carpet and sound deadening behind the driver's seats. I've got the car down to 1195 kg.
So there's not much I can tell you about option M150, other than it's purpose was to be used with leaded fuel. Essentially the car doesn't have any emissions on it at all and runs very nicely on 98RON fuel.
My car is a 10/97 build, one of the first 1000 built, option M408 BBS hollow spoke wheels, no rear wiper, no side airbags, vinyl roof, no traction control.
Some years back tried the muff delete Fab Speed pipes with cats still installed. Was unbearable loud/obnoxious to me. And wasn't even a good sound.
With a simple ph decibel app, got 111 decibel in the car at full tilt. Can't afford to lose anymore of my hearing so dumped them in 3 days.
IMHO, track only mod like you're setting up for. Better address oil pressure instability because you won't be able to hear rod knock...
$100 for the set + shipping
Few years ago, I removed the mufflers and went with Fabspeed bypass pipes, lost low end power and the drone was horrendous and loud, next added a set of 3 baffles insert that reduce the noise and the drone but still too loud. baffles came from these guys. I would try the 4 baffles 2 1/4 inserts.
Silencer Insert
I was a little sick of my fister/gundo hack so made some free flowing mufflers, resonator is a louvred type with stainless filling.
I also added a J-pipe to remove most of the drone, the weight saving is nuts! Standard mufflers are ridiculously over weight for what they are.
Noise is considerably better now, next stage is a home made x-pipe and cat delete (i have a ROW so shouldn't cause any issues).
Final plan will be to have them all HPC coated or similar.
Thanks, just normal mild steel aluminized exhaust piping. A couple of standard combo bends and you can cut all you need from them to make it all work.
Tips were some cheapies I found, a bit bigger than the stock ones but fill the holes nicely
I'm not a welder by any means, but i have a tig and can sort of use it...worth a try to see if it worked.
Will see how the x pipe makes it sound, I'm keen to drop the old most likely partially blocked cats and see how performance improves.
Mine sounded like a vacuum cleaner when I was off the gas when I had my muffler bypass's on mine. Hated the sound......sounded great while on the gas but off it was horrible. Ended up finding a set of Fabspeed mufflers and installing those and it sounds much better! A good friend of mine had a local muffler shop make him some (by pass) with the bend similar to the one SimJen did and it sounds much better but still loud.
[QUOTE=De Jeeper;20042768]
I weighed the car on my town's community scales, which maybe 60 or 70 years old. Out of curiosity I took the car to a friend's house today and weighed on his digital scales and the car came in at 1220 kgs. 🥺
I've had to put the sound ending and carpet back in to the car as the noise and the cab is just too much to take on a long trip.
I thought I'd post this video as an update to the thread. I have removed these pipes now, too loud. I have fitted a set of Fabspeed Maxflow and, without cats on my car, it is loud at WOT, but nice around town.

Removed Fabspeed Bypass Pipes as well after 2 days. Sounds horrible off gas and the drone is unbearable.
Ended up with some FabSpeed MaxFlo that I had modified by Darin at FD Motorsport to a Stage 3 Fister Exhaust. Now it sounds like a GT3. It sounds amazing!
Fabspeed X Fister FTW!
