I only swapped the MC nothing else, that was 4 years ago and about 120 track days.

Im fitting a UAOS and I wont be running a deep sump because I need ground clearance for the roads I use.

On the pads I do recommend Ferodo DS2500 to the use you describe.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
29 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Black Friday is coming up and my 996.2 C2 is due a service, so I thought Id stock up on parts then analysis paralysis set in, so Im reaching out to the brains trust.
Spark plugs
Right now Im seeing NGK BKR6EQUP recommended, but Im wondering if theres a better choice. With all the heat‑range options, should I stick with NGK, or go Denso or Bosch instead?
Rotors and pads
The front rotors are badly lipped and scored, and Id prefer to keep the original look. Ive been looking at Brembo, Zimmermann and ATE, but Im stuck on pad choice as well. Usage is very fast road I like to lean on the car but Im unlikely to track it. Im fitting a UAOS and I wont be running a deep sump because I need ground clearance for the roads I use.
I would have gone Pagid StreetPlus, but they dont make my rear size. Any pad recommendations that match a fast‑road driving style and keep predictable bias?
Other parts and questions
Do I need anything else for a successful brake job shims, anti‑rattle clips, new hardware, particular fluid? Also, is it worth considering a GT3 master cylinder for a firmer pedal, or does that open a can of worms requiring many other changes? (I already have braided lines.)
What are others planning to buy for a 996.2 C2 service?
On the pads I do recommend Ferodo DS2500 to the use you describe.
Since you already have braided brake hoses, to get a very good pedal feel even on track (not speaking here 'heavy racing'), only addittion I'd recommend besides DS2500 pads, any rotors you mention would be good brake fluid (I like Motul Race 600).
GT3 master cylinder as you mentioned is a good upgrade for pedal feel. There is no issue with non PSM cars. Guys with PSM will have to pipe in on what they did to make it work.
@GC996
Can you clarify, no issue installing the GT3 master cylinder on no PSM 996s, specifically an early 1999?
Or do you mean the the non PSM cars do not need the upgraded GT3 master cylinder? TY
The 997 (better than the 996 version allegedly) GT3 master cylinder is a straight swap into the 996 if the 996 does
not
have PSM. If it
does
have PSM then there's a conversion nut or something that is needed. I didn't commit that info to memory as my car is naked (no PSM)
Either way (no personal experience as yet to install ) it is supposed to give that GT3 pedal feel. The bore of the master cylinder is bigger and therefore less pedal travel with shift the same amount of fluid as the longer travel of a smaller bore standard MCyl.
I have a 99 and Im currently researching this as well. I believe this is the thread youre looking for:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-boxsters.html
This is a bit more involved (more expensive as you need to replace more stuff like the large circular brake booster thing) than the other 996s, however, it does seem like there are less complications than PSM cars.
I saw that thread but it did not give me a clear picture for a non PSM 1999 so I asked again 🤷♂️
I’m slow on the forums and the track 🤩
Thanks guys for the detailed explanation
Going to spring for OEM supplier “TRW” version on Friday 👍
Don't delay. According to TRW supplier in Australia the PMN166 (the TRW part number) is no longer available for the foreseeable future. No future manufacturing date was listed on their portal..
Took me a while to find a site that had stock (Germany) so bought it a few days ago.
Love Black Friday sales
Scored the last one on Amazon, TRW PMN166 $250
Done
🤞
From the other thread above…
Are these additional items needed for a 1999 non- PSM?
Anyone have a source for the following:
Firewall seal update set:
000 043 204 66
Updated brake push rod: 996
423 165 05
Threaded bushing:
996 423 307 00
Pin:
996 423 308 00
I only swapped the MC nothing else, that was 4 years ago and about 120 track days. I have PSM, although now run with the pump disconnected. I had to put a proportioning valve in but never reduced the pressure, left it wide open. I don't know if you will get a fault with non-psm but I would doubt it.
Edit: The extra parts you listed seam unnecessary.
No codes or issue with non psm cars. My y2k has over 100 track days on a 997gt3 mc. Some cars will need an adaptor fitting but there r some mk1 cars with the correct hard line.
Back on topic, Black Friday deals:
I ordered a set of Feal Coilovers direct from Feal
My order has been confirmed and they will be shipped in about four or five weeks.
👍
I just refreshed my headlights with Retro Fit Labs bi-xenon projectors and LED high beam (turn the night into day...) Well worth it BUT BEWARE: DO NOT USE LOCTITE ANYWHERE NEAR THE PLASTIC FRAME IF YOU DO. The plastic reacts and turns into a brittle mess. NOT FUN
The last item on my Black Friday shopping list is a Aerokit front bumper cover.
Part number in the photo.
Dealership said that it’s a special order from Germany 4/6 week delivery and I will pick it up from the dealer so no shipping 🤞
The Boxster Aerokit front bumper is a direct fit and only requires a slight modification to the third radiator opening.
My bank account is not happy 😢
I wasn't sure which cancellation notice you were referring to, but I received a speedy shipment notice from FCPEuro that the TRW PMN166 master cylinder shipped.
We're fortunate that so many parts are still available for the 996, my buddy with an Audi of the same vintage is dealing with unobtainium blues. Hopefully this part is just temporarily unavailable and it's not leaving production permanently.
Ordered twenty four quarts of DT40, case of Defender and a
Resonance Tube Vacuum Leak Cap
all on sale. Thank you

And for anyone wanting to upgrade their at-home hand tool setup... Harbor Freight is doing 40% OFF on their ICON ratchets in-store. I've been really happy with the
