For reference, I paid about $27 for a 54K mile 1999 coupe this past July with original IMS - it is tiptronic though, which works great for me as I use then manual mode.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Been looking for a 996. Recently found guards red 99 cab 6 speed manual. 85k miles, no IMS done. I know the 99s have a better track record with no IMS failures. Car is all original. 2 owners. Seller is asking 25k. Is that a bargain or should I keep looking? Was thinking of offering $22k.

POST 2Original post

Hard to tell without seeing thete car. Also depends how much you like convertibles. I tend to feel cabs go for less than coupes. Sounds like the pricing is in the normal range, however for that money you should be able to find a coupe in good shape, as well, if you prefer. For reference, I paid about $27 for a 54K mile 1999 coupe this past July with original IMS - it is tiptronic though, which works great for me as I use then manual mode. I assembled a spreadsheet when I was looking and there were several in this price range all over the US during that part of the summer. Here is a link with a bunch to consider, fwiw. https://www.carfax.com/Used-Porsche-911_w577 Good luck

I paid $17,000 for my '03 996 Cab, but that was 10 years ago when prices were at the bottom of the depreciation curve for low mileage 996 cars. Not the case anymore. The '99 model is special because it does have an engine that is less prone to IMS bearing failure and cylinder bore scoring. That being said, $25K is pretty fair is the car is clean and well maintained with service records. I would strongly recommend getting a PPI. Where is the car located?

^^^ What he said. I paid $29,900 for a 95k mile original IMSB manual Coupe in May 2025, with a PPI and Maryland State Safety Inspection. Dealer serviced, only minor cosmetic issues. It was 100% stock, not anymore 😀 IMHO Tip Cab is $20k, Tip Coupe $23k with the original IMSB and a successful PPI. 6 speed manual a few $$$ more. GLWYS
