Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If it cranks over slow with any new correct size battery, might be time for an upgraded Y cable, check all engine grounds, last but not least check starter.
Leading evidence: 'Install 2017' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check engine grounds, last' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. It will be here in two days and I'll install it myself (just like I installed the last one).

I have load tested the battery and it reports good.

At my wife's insistence, I had my battery tested today, and much to my surprise, it tested at only 44% of capacity.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

If you get the EverStart Platinum AGM, you can take it back to Walmart in 3.5 years and they will replace it free of charge with no questions asked no battery testing needed Been running 2 of those AGM H6 in both my 996 for years now, great battery at a great price.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2003 Porsche 996 - 50000 miles.
Has a Porsche replacement battery (bosch?) installed 2017.
Car is on the Porsche tender when not being driven and also while in storage.
Car starts fine. Voltmeter shows normal.
Next season battery will be 9 years old.
My only concern is its age.
Would you change it? Or wait until it shows signs of degradation. I have load tested the battery and it reports good.
The starter battery on my boat, on a tender 8 months of the year lasts 6 boating seasons. Season 7 it is dead. Regardless of brand. I've replaced 4 X now. The last time, I didn't even wait for it to die. Replaced it after season 6.
Yes, I would change it. $300 for an AGM Interstate Battery would be a good investment. I get a new battery every 5-6 years in my 911. In a daily driver, I just replaced one that was 10 years old. So while you can get more time out of it, I don't want to deal with problems.
Wouldnt do it, batteries die, or don't. Age has very little to do with it in my experience. If you maintain it well and don't deep cycle it too often they can last very long. And if it starts going, you'll notice it soon enough when the starting goes a bit slower.
I've had my Durolast AGM H7 battery (from Autozone) the last 13+ years. I always plugged in the Porsche battery maintainer when I pulled into the garage and my battery never went dead. At my wife's insistence, I had my battery tested today, and much to my surprise, it tested at only 44% of capacity. I ordered an Everstart H-8 AGM battery with free delivery from Walmart for only $189. It will be here in two days and I'll install it myself (just like I installed the last one). By the way, the battery tray has positions for an H6 battery (which is what it came with originally), and an H7 and an H8. However, the hole for the H8 is not threaded, but I had a nut welded to the battery tray bottom for the H8 position many years ago. Now, I get to use that slot for the H8 hold-down.
I'll be going the Costco route. I'm in Canada, so Costco sells Kirkland for flooded cell, and Duracell for AGM made by East Penn.
I'm still debating on the AGM versus flooded cell. Am I correct that flooded cell provides better cranking versus AGM? Cost is only $120 difference. I am more interested in what is the better choice. I don't drive in the winter and have never had a problem starting when hot, but I do notice decreased start performance when hot.
No doubt in my mind after using only AGM for decades now in dozens of vehicles. AGM all the way.
Walmart has H6 AGM or if you must H7 AGM with 3 year ($140) or 4 year (190) full replacement warranty. If you get the EverStart Platinum AGM, you can take it back to Walmart in 3.5 years and they will replace it free of charge with no questions asked no battery testing needed Been running 2 of those AGM H6 in both my 996 for years now, great battery at a great price.
Totally maintenance free and leak free. No acid leaking out on battery tray/gas tank cover pannel/trunk. No vent line really needed. AGM can sit for 6 months, as long as no parasitic drain, it will still be at close to full voltage. In a year it still will have good voltage to start the car. Try that with a wet cell...
Oh ya, to answer your question,,, AGM cold cranking amps are more than sufficient for our flat 6 engines in cold Canada... Better choice for longevity, and all around performance is AGM for the total win imho...
Not cold Canada. HOT CANADA where we are in the 90's, 100% humidity and I stop at the Shell for gas. Always feel it cranks slow. Car is stored for 6 months so no cold weather use.
If it cranks over slow with any new correct size battery, might be time for an upgraded Y cable, check all engine grounds, last but not least check starter.
Thought the great white north was bone chilly cold, getting to sub zero frequently with tons of snow. Sporting a 3 month temperate summer...
Although I've been at Pemberton Glacier back country near Blackcomb, when an inversion hit the mountain,,, first I've heard of an inversion, very strange.
We were let off the helicopter on top of a back country high ridge iirr at 9000' close to the Glacier. Had snowed hard the nite before, fresh deep powder. Was absolutely beautiful breathtaking. I was the first one out of copter, saw huge footprints in the snow going all along the top of the ridge.... The guide said it was a Yeti in his heavy Canadian accent "YETI YETI'.... One of my buddies said its a big bear, I said look at those, they are 18" long, thats no bear....
I can relate to Humidity, as we have a bit of humidity here once in a while. But it rarely gets over 94 here in Southern Florida.
