Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'gas' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'gas' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check crank shaft sensor' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

This is probably where your issue is coming from.....but before you have a 3200 paperweight in your garage I would address the cam pads!

Thanks - I'm going to have my indy replace the crank position sensor and then try and put some fuel stabilizer in to rule out it being a bad sensor or bad gas.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Only other time this has happened was after getting gas, and it resolved after that tank fully emptied and was replaced.
Hey all - I was actually in the process of listing my 996 for sale when a warm start issue started appearing on the car. Essentially, car would start just fine when cold and drive totally normally, but if I were to stop and turn the car off, it would have trouble holding an idle upon warm start and eventually stall.
Problem got to the point where upon any warm start, it would stall immediately. I did have this problem over the summer for a week or so, but it went away. Now its back and persisting. I took it into a shop to have it inspected, and the below image was the feedback from the tech. Doesnt seem like a fuel pressure or oxygen level problem. His inclination was that it could be related to the camshaft deviations, but I dont know enough about that to understand it.
Its a 2001 996 C4, tip transmission, with about 124k miles on it. Does anyone have experience with this or have any thoughts on the techs feedback? Happy to pay a consulting fee or whatever for the advice if helpful.
Also, could this be a case for simply "bad gas"? Where did you fill up last? Top tier station? Might consider adding some Techron Total Fuel System cleaner.
This was my initial inclination. Only other time this has happened was after getting gas, and it resolved after that tank fully emptied and was replaced. Problem started occurring again after getting gas again - it was premium gas but I don’t necessarily know if the station was considered top tier. The fuel stabilizer is a good idea that I will pursue.
Does your tach move correctly when you are cranking the starter? If not then crank position sensor may be faulty. I'm not saying this is your issue and it may be premature to assume. There are certainly other possible causes.
Thanks - I'm going to have my indy replace the crank position sensor and then try and put some fuel stabilizer in to rule out it being a bad sensor or bad gas. It's a good callout, appreciate it
My wife's car started to run badly after filling up at a WaWa station. It was premium gas as well. Ran that tank out and refilled at a Mobil 1 station. No more problems. It was the gas.
If your cam deviation numbers are off that much you need to have the pads switched out before you drop a valve! That is certainly not helping your issue. I would also check the crank shaft sensor. This is probably where your issue is coming from.....but before you have a 3200 paperweight in your garage I would address the cam pads!
