Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know i once read a thread on measuring crankcase pressure to check AOS but could not find in in my search. I decided to buy a second oil filler cap so to hook up my manometer and check pressure. Here is what I got: 1. At cold start up the pressure was 5.68 in WC 2. After idle for 5+ minutes it was 5.37 in WC 3. After bringing engine to operating temp (water just to temp but still not driven for extended period of time) it was around 4.8 in WC Hope someone could point me to the previous thread about this or verify that my readings are in the comfort zone for the AOS. Getting ready for 60k service so just wanted to check. Thanks

Can't put my hands on a previous thread but you might find the info at this link of some help: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti..._Separator.htm While it references a Boxster AOS the pressure reading for a 996 should be about the same.

POST 3Original post

"You don't have intermix then. If smoke is coming out from both sides, it's likely the AOS is bad, having too much vacuum. You can use a manometer on the oil filler tube to measure the vacuum on a warmed idling engine. It should be about 5" to 10" of water." The above is from a forum guy who knows his stuff(Ahsai). Looks to me you are in the ballpark!

Thanks Macster, the Pelican Parts link identified that the crankcase pressure should be between 4 - 7 in WC so looks like I am ok. Did not want to spend more than needed at my 60k service since I will be replacing plugs, belt, oil and other lube items. I may also have the water pump replaced since it seems like a good idea after reading many threads.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Wildbilly32, NO, I do not have any visible signs of failure, just wanted to check.
