Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I installed the dongle that connects directly to the battery leads (which comes as part of the 3300) and use it to connect the trickle charger vs.

I have will not initiate charging if it doesn't detect at least 3 volts, so I have to get my battery charged enough for me to be able to use my battery charger.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My dads 2008 996 Carrera....with the CTEK (56-158) MULTI US 3300 12 Volt Fully Automatic 4 step Battery Charger work with the cig adapter for a trickle charger?
If not any other good recommendations would be helpful....that's what I have for my GT3 but want to make sure he can use it as well.....
Thanks
I have two of the CTEK Multi US 3300's, one for each of my P-cars. Love 'em. I installed the dongle that connects directly to the battery leads (which comes as part of the 3300) and use it to connect the trickle charger vs. using the cig adapter.
Yes, it will work on any car that uses a 12v lead-acid battery. The only thing is you need to make sure the cig lighter on the 2008 is always hot, which I think it is.
One thing I recently learned - the hard way - is that some maintainers/trickle chargers will not function on a completely flat battery. The door ajar switch on my Corvette crapped out, resulting in a 100% flat battery. The Battery Tender Jr. I have will not initiate charging if it doesn't detect at least 3 volts, so I have to get my battery charged enough for me to be able to use my battery charger.
This is certainly an edge case - first time it's been an issue for me - but if you think you might ever wind up with a completely dead battery, make sure the product you purchase will work in that situation.
Tonight I'm going to use a 9v battery to see if I can trick mine...
Looks like you've received some great advice, but I was wondering if you could post a picture of your dad's Carrera, I've never seen the '08 model 996.
Yes, I'm just teasing!

LMBO, that '08 996 is a unicorn gem b3freak.
Great point about the cig lighter always being hot. I do not know about the '08 models, but those on more recent ones e.g. 991s stay hot if you plug in your charger right away but will go
and stay
cold if the charger turns off--like in a power outage. A good friend of mine found this out the hard way on his 991 Turbo S; he now hard-wires his trickle chargers directly to the battery terminals as a result.
