Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently picked up a leather center console for mywifes car. It has an aftermarket carbon fiber overlay between the. Shifter and the storage compartment. i would like to remove it. Does anyone have any experience with removing the overlay without damaging the leather covering of the center console? I have thought about applying heat to the overlay without damaging a hot air gun but wanted to see if anyone has done this before I start. It is Metropol Blue color so it is not as common as Black or Gray. Thanks Mark

POST 2Original post

So is this aftermarket piece glued on over the original leather? If so its probably going to be unrecoverable. The oem carbon can be separated from the underlying piece using a spackle knife to break up old glue and gently pry off the carbon piece.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was able to peel the overlay off. I did pull off the surface layer of nthe leather in a few spots around the shifter. I will try to touch up the leather with some Metropol blue leather dye. If that doesnt work I will send it off to have it recovered.
