Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Buy three liters of fluid, I used Motul Gear 300 75W90, but it's like most oil discussions where people hold strong opinions.

You need to drop the front of the transmission down and use lots of extensions (~2ft) to remove it, approaching it from the end of the transmission near the mount.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

looking for a link to a well sorted thread about transmission replacement. one that would have lists of tools needed, time frame, tips, pictures and/or video, fluid type and capacity.
I have a 2000 C2 manual.
already have a replacement trans for the current one that seems to have a whiney pinion bearing.
thanks!
And yes I did search, but I found mostly questions about one aspect of the job, not something that gave a tutorial of the whole thing.
thanks
Here is a pretty good writeup:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...on_Removal.htm
A lift, transmission scissor jack and a engine support bar will make it a whole lot easier, but people have come up with all sorts of ways to do the job without them.
If you can weld, cut and drill, you can make an engine support bar for <$40. (I just did.)
Buy three liters of fluid, I used Motul Gear 300 75W90, but it's like most oil discussions where people hold strong opinions. I think it took 2.7 liters, but don't quote me.
Pelican parts has a step by step guide with pictures. If you search my past threads I documented replacing my IMS bearing and went into some of the more nitty gritty details of dropping the transmission.
If youre using jack stands and laying on your back, Id give yourself plenty of time to complete the project. Technically you can remove it and reinstall in a day - but without a lift, the advantage of doing it before, and every tool you may need, Id say youll spend at least 10 hours getting it out.
Good luck with the project! If you cant find the links mentioned above, let me know. I can get them later once Im on a computer and not a phone.
Cheers
Charlie
Also, one tip that Pelican doesnt mention is that the topmost bolt on the transmission is virtually impossible to get to with everything in place. You need to drop the front of the transmission down and use lots of extensions (~2ft) to remove it, approaching it from the end of the transmission near the mount. And make sure you have the right triple square bit for the lower passenger side bolt, I think it is a 10mm, but am not sure off the top of my head.
