I only have 500 miles on them, but they seem to be as good as any I have used previously on a 993.

Suggestion
Once i run this new set of rears out, i'll replace the fronts at the same time.

I ended up just replacing my rears because they were shot.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am bringing up an old topic. I am always interested to see what tires us 996'ers are using. I need new rears, my fronts are still good. I haven't ruled out replacing all 4 tires. Please post what tires you have purchased this season!
Another set of Falken 453's. Plenty of grip for a street driven car in my opinion.
The N rated purists will undoubtedly shame me but I've got thick skin.
Purchased another set of Sumitomos (rears only) for my C4S (like yours, the fronts are fine). Very happy with them. Great tire and the price (as compared to the Michelins) made the decision a no-brainer for me.

no complaints so far, much quieter than the Sumi's I was wearing out
I purchase 3 sets this year...
Bridgestone RE11 as DE rain tires. These are fantastic dual purpose DE/street tires too.

Sumitomos for me. HTR Z III 18"
Half (or less) the price of the higher end brands.
As I don't track my car, it does not matter whether the performance
difference "at the limit" is significant or not.
We get frequent wet, foggy, slippery days here on the Wet Coast and I daily drive my C2 cab.
Went with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 front and rear and couldn't be happier. Excellent all around street tire, great wear characteristics so far (11k km on them) and fantastic in the rain and dry. Will definitely buy another set next go round.
My car doesn't partake in track days or auto cross but does a lot of spirited street driving including long distance and many, many very twisty mountain/canyon roads. Biggest single day this year was 1,611 km with weather from pouring rain near home to hot desert sun in central California and tires were no issue.
Just consider how you drive 95% of the time and choose appropriately. Most importantly just get out and drive!
I put a set of these on last fall and am loving them. Quieter than previous BS and don't seem to flat spot after sitting which was brutal with the 'Stones.

My first 996. Daily driving only is how I use the car.
I only have 500 miles on them, but they seem to be as good as any I have used previously on a 993. and at less than half the cost...and quiet
Same here. I got almost 15k out of the rears. Once i run this new set of rears out, i'll replace the fronts at the same time. I think i have around 7/32 on the fronts.
Sumitomo HTR Z III's. On my second set of rears, I get about 10k miles out of them and just put a pair on the front, I get closer to 30k out of these. Can't get better bang for the buck than this brand of tire IMO.
Looks like only a part of my response showed. My new tires are continental DWS 06 225/40 and 275/35 on the rears. Very quiet, good grip, excellent brain performance. So quiet in fact my cabin noise level went down from 94 dB to 87 dB! I commute 90 miles per day and need for comfort and durability had an all weather tire will give.
Just put on new rear continental DW tires a few weeks ago.
Car doesn't see snow (no traction control, LSD, so it's really fun when slippery...) so no real reason to get a all weather tire.
Dailies- Michelin PSS
If you are trailering your car to the track then you are probably on Hoosiers.
Since I drive to the track two hours each way I'm on NT01s and get about 35 heat cycles. Might try flipping them more this go around to see if I can squeeze out another 10 cycles or two track days. Only did so once and they corded on 30.
I ended up just replacing my rears because they were shot. I am planning on doing a track day or 2. My tire guy gave me a stellar deal on Falken Azenis PT-722's. I haven't really had a chance to drive it really just yet. They do feel solid. I figure I will be changing the rears every 2 years so it wont make a huge difference. I tried to find Sumi's but I was told they dont sell in Canada!!
Beware, Falken has discontinued the Azenis FK453 295/30R18's. Put a full set (F/B) a couple years ago. Now I need replace the rears (front fine) and can't get them. Spoke to Falken who confirmed they're discontinued. Needless to say, I'm PO'd. I really liked them also.
Do 295's on the rear fit my stock wheel or should I go 285?
I am currently running 225/265 and the rear tires are a tad stretched.... really don't like the look and want a wider tire
+1
PNW DD here as well. Love my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3. In the last year I've put 10k miles of spirited driving, commuting, and road trips on them and my rears are still ~50% on the inside. They're not quiet, but they wear like iron and handle wet and cold as well as hot sunny days (NOTE: My car hasn't driven NEAR a track, let alone on one.
). When I took my '99 C4 in for it's 30k mile service a couple of months ago my indy remarked how evenly the rears were wearing and that he couldn't believe I had put as many miles on them as I have.
